Robogram - The Programming Card Game - Reloaded
Robogram is a game designed to introduce basic computer coding while taking opponents in epic cyber battles.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Sat, December 15 2018 10:17 AM UTC +00:00.
Enter the Cyberspace
Visit Cyburbia, the largest city in virtual space. The city where Robots, AI and computer programs will become reality. Join your Robot and ready your program cards to compete in the Grand Arena for the ultimate cyber-trophy and become the Robogram Champion!
Robogram a card game to teach your kids programming
Robogram is a unique customizable card game designed to teach kids about programming (it's also proper fun!)
It's a game of epic battles where programmers attempt to bring down their opponent's firewall and crash each other's servers.
As cards and damage are dealt, players will also develop an understanding of how computer systems work. They will write programs and evaluate them together.
The tricks, terms and programs they learn to use in the game, will give them real-life advantages when it comes to understanding programming.
72 Poker sized cards in two tuck boxes, including 2 Program Decks and two Kickstarter only cards. A5 size Rule Book, 2x A3 size Game Mat, 6 dices. Any unlocked Stretch Goals, plus the Digital Version of the game in PDF format.
Kickstarter Exclusive Cards
One of a kind Kickstarter card! You will get two of them, they can be used with any deck types, even future ones included in stretch goals! Only available for the Kickstarter Campaign. These cards are unique to our Kickstarter campaign and will NEVER be printed again.
Print & Play - Digital Version
Home printing optimised version of 35 Cards, Rule sheet and Game Mat for downloading. This is for people who like DIY or live in a hard-to-reach area by post or just want to have a low-cost trial of the game.
The Game is Ready to Print
All the design work is complete and we've printed a few test runs with the printing company. Printing is only cost effective if we have a large order, which is why we need your help to kick-start this project!
Beautifully crafted individual cards, they help to understand computer- related concepts and also help to tell our story.
Each card is visually different and tells a unique story.
The game in standard configuration includes C++ Deck or (C++ and Ruby Deck if the stretch goal is reached) Assembly and Script Language Decks are also in development.
Unlocked - Box
This is an addition for the basic kit. Stylish box to keep all the game parts together. Posts with the basic kit.
Unlocked - Ruby Deck
This is an upgrade! Ruby deck replacing one of the two C++ decks in the box. Ruby programming deck focusing on the higher level Ruby language. Unlocking lots of new strategies and more interesting gameplay. Ruby Deck has very powerful programs which can easily break through firewalls without modifications. However, these commands are resource-intensive, so robots of this kind have lower available memory. To win you'll need to use lots of Function or Object cards. Posts with the basic kit.
£9000 - Advanced Game Extension
This is an addition for the basic kit.
- Advanced Rules - Adding cool rules like Recursive calls and callable functions and more.
- Quick Rules Sheet - Quick reference of the rules on a simple A3 page.
- 15 extra C++ Cards and 15 extra Ruby Cards - Adding new advanced cards to the game. Including Heroic and Epic cards and main characters like Kabuto, Robi and Reika.
- Illustrated Short Story - About how Reika and Robi first meet and battle EGO the AI
£13500 - Foldable Game Boards
This is an upgrade. Replacing the play mats with game boards. A3 size and foldable to A5. Posts together with the basic kit.
*Game board image is the beta test version, not the final product.
£18000 - Assembly Deck
This is an addition to the basic kit. 50 Unique Cards of low-level programming. This is an additional deck which extends the decks to 3 in the box. Assembly deck is a very-low-level programming language. It has very weak commands but they are very adaptable and not resource intensive. Robots of this kind have a lot of memory. Since this language deck needs time to defeat the opponent, it has the right tools to do it, with excellent firewalls and events and upgrades, literally you can digitally bleed your opponent's server of their hitpoints. Currently in development. Posts when ready.
£22000 - Script Deck
This is an addition to the basic kit. 50 Unique Cards of high-level Script programming. This is an additional deck which extends the decks to 4. Script Language is a very high-level language. Its commands are very resource-intensive. A robot of this kind has the minimum amount of memory. However, its commands and objects are ultimately powerful. Currently in development. Posts when ready.
The game was designed to be fun first and educational second so the gameplay is fast-paced and dynamic.
To play, each player selects a 'program deck'. These are unique and expandable and each deck is named after and has the attributes of a typical programming language.
At the moment players can play C++ (Ruby can be unlocked in the stretch goals), and more decks are in development (see more about stretch targets).
From their decks, they each choose a robot and set the stage for the coming battle.
To win, a player must program their robot to attack their opponent's firewall and server, while at the same time maintaining their own firewall and protecting their own servers.
Players use a multitude of different cards to create a variety of offensive and defensive plays and the game is easy to learn but takes time to master.
As they battle the players will learn about the functions of programming as well as programming terminology.
If they want to win, they will also need to develop their own programs and evaluate their programs together.
The cards feature colourful illustrations as well as the occasional snippet of trivia and elements from the game's cool cyberpunk storyline written by the author, screenwriter and comic book writer Neil Campbell.
The following extras can be added to the Robogram goodies you receive simply by adding the appropriate amount to your pledge, and we hope to add more choices throughout the Kickstarter process. We will contact you when the Kickstarter is complete to make sure you get the extras you are after.

We are launching Robogram on Kickstarter because it has become the world's best platform for launching card games.
We're looking to raise the money to publish the game in all its glory.
Please take the time to have a look at our rewards page where you can find once in a lifetime rewards and of course Kickstarter backers will get their copies faster and cheaper than anyone else. Thank you for listening and remember it's cool to share...

Risks and challenges
One of the biggest risks when releasing an educational game is getting the line between learning and fun in the right place.
We spent 3 years balancing and testing the game and tried it on kids and IT professionals alike.
There is always a chance that something could go wrong (a shipment is lost in transit etc.) so extra time and money is budgeted to cover any issues that may occur. We already have test prototypes printed so we are ready for printing!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
