Hello friends! Thank you so much for visiting our Kickstarter page. So here is the story...
I have been writing and performing music for about 13 years. Ever since I was about 5 or 6, all I wanted to do was sing. I used to plug in old big headphones into my parents old stereo system that had a mic jack and sing along to my kid records as I pretended the headphones were a real microphone and I was on stage in front of a captivated crowd :)
Last year my husband and I sold or gave away most of our possessions, quit our jobs and traveled around the world for 6 months. While we were away, I rediscovered my passion for making music and realized that my self-doubts were preventing me from living as my most authentic self. I unearthed the truth that what I wanted to spend this life doing was writing, performing and recording music and working as a life coach for creative artists.
On our return to the states, we moved to Tucson, AZ and I have been so inspired and invigorated by the thriving and dynamic music scene here! I then met Patrick Morris (badass bassist) and Kai Lindstedt (jaw-dropping drummer) and Corey Cottrell (killer guitarist and vocalist) and we have formed a band that feels so easy, inspiring and collaborative. I am so blessed to have found these three special gentlemen to make music with.
I am also so grateful and excited to be working with Craig Schumacher as our producer and engineer at Wavelab Studios (Calexico, Devotchka, Neko Case) on this next record! Craig has a very special gift in the studio and we are thrilled to collaborate with him.
The album will be entitled "The Leap Year" and many of the songs originated from an experience I had at a 10 day meditation retreat in Kyoto, Japan during my travels last year. After days of deep meditation, all of these memories from my past started floating up into my head and out into the room. It was as if I was releasing a past that was hurting me and holding me back in many different ways. Most of the songs on this record are like releasing a story that I was holding onto - maybe like watching a colorful balloon float up into the sky. Enjoying its path and shape and color but at the same time enjoying the sensation of releasing it.
The $12,000 we will raise in this effort will help to cover:
- 7 days of recording
- 7 days of mixing
- Mastering of the record
- Hiring one or two local musicians to come in and work on the record
If you don't already know, with Kickstarter if we do not meet our goal, we lose all funding donated! So we tried to adjust our goal accordingly. Any additional funds raised beyond our goal will help us to:
- Press the record and make real cd's that we can sell at shows
- Hire exceptional local musicians to join the project including players from the Tucson Symphony Orchestra
- Create a website for our new band
- Provide tour support for our upcoming summer tour to promote the album
- Provide some additional wiggle room in the studio so we can follow our creative impulses more often
What I want to impart to you is that your donations are fueling our creative dream :) And that you as a donor become co-creator with us in this endeavor. Without your support, this project cannot get off of the ground. So your financial support is, in essence, manifesting and crafting these songs so they can be shared with a wide audience.
Thank you so much for taking the time to look over our project proposal. I hope we will be able to share The Leap Year with you this Summer!
