About

A strategic and tactic cycling party game for 2 – 8 persons from the age of 8 and older. Available in English, Dutch and German. (Knowledge of cycling is not required.)

Will your team win the tour? Are you going for the yellow jersey or for the team rankings?
Are you climbing mountains or sticking to a flat stage?
Who will manage the best strategy and tactics for his team?
Who is best in nagging their opponents?
Play multiple stages on one day? Or spread it over several days/weeks or even months?
The choice is yours! Click away or learn the real meaning of dynamic game play like newer before.
And even if you try. Two games will never be the same.

However, keep in mind that you are not cycling alone….
As a result of a minor steering error, wrong calculation or a “Linkebal”-action, you can quite easily cause a fall with unpleasant consequences!

In this game you play as a team in the stages of a cycling tour. A team consists of three cyclists. The basic game can be played with 2 up to 4 players. With the additions ‘Teams’ and ‘Demarrage’ up till 6, 7 or 8. The duration of the game with 4 players is appr. 1.5 hours.

It’s important to gain the best possible results with your team.
Ratings are kept per player and per team.
A Tour consists of a number of stages in which the fastest biker will ride a number of stages wearing the yellow jersey.
You yourself will determine how many and which stages you want to play.
The game is played with seconds cards. By placing a seconds card on the table you determine yourself how fast the biker moves over the track.
You try to race as efficiently and tactically as possible and leave someone else to do the front riding taking advantage of the wind by drafting.
Keep your good cards for putting on a sprint, just at the beginning, at the end of the race or when you have the feeling that your opponent cannot do that at that particular moment.
In short: “Linkeballen”!

Game expansions.

Currently we have two game expansions.

Game expansion 1. - Teams.
This game expansion gives 2 extra teams making it possible to play the game up to 6 players.
It also includes extra change cards which makes it possible to use new team tactics and strategies.

Game expansion 2. - Demarrage.
This game expansion gives 2 extra teams making it possible up to 6 players.
Do you also have game expansion 1 (Teams), then you can play up to 8 players.
It also includes demarrage (sprinting) cards which give tactics an strategies an entire new dimension.

History of the game

In 1967 the first concept was created by Hans van der Hulst.
It existed of hand written boards, change cards and felt pen caps as riders.
Provisionally, but wonderfully exciting and entertaining.

The family and friends played this game with great enthusiasm.
The game was based on the cycling tour consisting of several stages, with the yellow jersey (overall leader) and the points and team rankings were the most important parts of the game.

Late 80s, the sons Barry and Ron started to participate. This resulted in modifications and expansions of our already popular game.
In 2012 it became a fully-fledged game and the sons came to the idea to bring the game available on the market. To let everyone enjoy the fun of our game.

The future:

-20+ stages with each his unique properties like: extreme stages with ice, roads ‘under construction’ during playing, dangerous downhill, time trials and more.
-Possible single language editions.
-Pocket editions.
-Deluxe editions with all game expansions.
-An MMO turn based edition which can be played using your smartphone, pc and / or tablet. (long term planning, presumably created in Unity3D)

Why Kickstarter and Funding?

We decided to launch Linkeballen on Kickstarter because we need your help.
We've invested in development, design and testing for many years.
Now we have completed our game and we want to start the production so everybody can have the same fun in playing this game as we have with our friends. Now here is the catch. Production costs money which we don’t have. Here’s where Kickstarter comes in.
All of the funding will go toward the actual creation of the game and sending the game to your address, but it will also help us to promote the game and reach the global market.

Our Goal? We hope to get at least 250 basic editions.

Do we have less at the end of our Kickstarter? Too bad but the game will still go in production.
We will borrow the rest of the money using a loan.
We will try to sell the game on events etc.

Do we sell more? Great, everyone will have the game at home as soon as possible.

Even 750 or more? Super, our graphic designer can also start to design the other stages as well.
With more stages which will be provided in game expansions, the game will be upgraded to a higher level because of the extra possibilities like ice roads, extreme mountains, and if really successful even a turned based app.

Risks and challenges

Risks for Linkeballen are limited.
The greatest challenge we face is getting the support we need to share this game with the world. Please help by sharing this Kickstarter with everyone you think who would enjoy a good strategy game and/or likes cycling.
