The launch of a highly colorful and creatively costumed play is the realistic goal of this literary and political satire. It will be the first time a Restoration Comedy has been performed in Lafayette, Louisiana, and I would like to show how such a show can match up to playwright, George Villiers, 2nd Duke of Buckingham’s humor and absurdity with twenty-four quality-built costumes of authentic period design.
The performance will take place during the last two weekends of this July, 2012 (dates: 19, 20, 21, 22 and 26, 27, 28, 29) at Cité des Arts, Lafayette’s Grassroots Theatre.
We have received some materials for costumes from donors (thankfully) and are looking forward to working with younger students to help activate community theatre interest by creating/building our needed “Hobby Horse” (with materials that we will provide).
Our budget is $2,000 which covers costume materials: wigs, men’s shirts, stockings, staffs, ribbon, light and heavy embroidered fabric, buttons, pants, hats, helms, swords, and various paper, wood, and plastic for small props. Other costs are for scripts, posters, mailings, playbills, opening night reception, and payment to theatre technicians.
This project is a team effort for further promotion of the theater arts in our community. I am hoping that you can be part of this team by helping us to achieve our goal and create this wonderfully funny play, dressed to please, of course.
