Great Craft Beer and Community!
Craft Brew Lovers know that craft brewing is a passion .... and an investment! Bumping up to a 3 barrel system is a costly but necessary (and exciting) step in meeting demand and expanding! We are indebted to our customers and the support that they bring to the brewery every weekend and for the support that they have offered us in this Kickstarter Project! Our backers .... are ... the Fairport Brewing Company!
Our vision also encompasses our community! We named the Fairport Brewing Company for the community in which we grew up, live in today, and hope to see grow and prosper. Locating in another destination would have saved thousands of dollars, but it is our vision to continue brewing our craft beer, prospering, and giving back to the community that helped make us a viable, thriving business.
Our brewery brings visitors from all over the U.S. Our hope is that as we grow, Fairport and our surrounding communities will grow too. Maybe, with an influx of visitors to the brewery, another like minded entrepreneur, will set up shop close by and as that success breeds another success, more and more entrepreneurs will follow!
Our vision entails not only great craft beer for craft brew lovers and our supporters, but a community and brewery that thrive, grow, and prosper together!
Welcome to our Kickstarter page!
Fairport Brewing Company is an existing pico brewery with two part time employees and while we may be the smallest brewery in New York, our craft beer is second to none!
We have been in operation since October 2012 and we are taking the next step, hopefully with you, to purchase a complete 3 barrel brewery. It's conservative we know, but with your help we can make history in Fairport together!
A 3 Bbl (barrel) will offer six times more capacity than we have today and this equipment will give us more control over the beer that we make. Increased capacity will also allow us to meet our present demand and to start self distributing to local establishments.
The Fairport Brewing Company project was started in a one bedroom apartment utilized as an office and "man cave" in the Village of Fairport. After years of home brewing and one too many beers, we cranked it up a notch to the professional level. Our vision was great beer using only the finest ingredients ... at any cost! The vision included growing slowly and organically, without incurring the usual massive debt, along the way. So we started small. Really, really, small!
The licensing paperwork was cumbersome and the agencies involved (fed/state) are antiquated - to say the least! However it wasn't about our frustration or the cost and the mental anguish that the federal and state put us through ... it was much bigger than that. It was about a dream of creating a great product and in the process making our community believe again, that a small start up company could make it, grow, give back, and maybe someday ... become an institution that this community could call its own and ... be proud of too.
The Early Days
This past October, as New York's newest and smallest licensed brewery, we poured our first growler made from our 1/2 barrel brew-house currently located at 1000 Turk Hill Road, Suite 298 in the Turk Hill Park. And even though people had a hard time finding us (well - some had really hard time) we managed to sell out of our beer and had to close our doors a few times over the Christmas Holidays! However...our customers remained positive, and so did we!
Great Beer and Community Involvement is the Perfect Recipe! That's where the fun begins!
Seems like the more we give, the more we get! When we set up our brewery in a hard to find place, people would just show up. (Not sure how they ever found us - but they did!) We invited them to brew with us during our community brew sessions and in time more people began to join us. During this time we met some really great home-brewers who had won awards and allowed them to brew their award winning recipes on our "commercial" system.
We go out of our way to involve our community any way that we can and have a blast doing it! We have naming contests on Facebook to name our beers. (Check out our Facebook page and see the interaction.) Some of the names include Fair Porter, Liftbridge Lager, Gutterwalker Stout, Millstone Blonde, Muddy Waters of Love, Oxbow ESB, Raider's Red, Peter J IPA, and of course, the nearly famous Scum Jumper, named by a 1983 Fairport Grad. (A 1982 grad coined the phrase, "If You Brew It ... They Will jump!") (Oh - some people may be curious as to just what the heck a "scum jumper" is! A Fairport NY Urban Legend/Myth centers around a young man who joined his friends one day in a Fairport Rite of Passage which entails jumping from one of our bridges into the Erie Canal. This activity is called "scum jumping" ... as the water in the Erie Canal is not always as "pristine" as one might imagine it to be! The hometown hero mentioned above jumped from his perch, splashed into the Erie, and, as the story goes, into the carcass of a cow that must have floated downstream and onto the bottom of the canal. Some people have doubted the veracity of this story over the years but a month after opening our Brewery to the public, a Fairport woman visited us and confirmed that indeed, the story is quite true as it was in fact, her very own uncle who made that fateful plunge so many summers ago! It turns out that Fairport's Urban Myth is no myth at all ... but the very legend that the rest of us have always believed it to be!)
Bosch a local security video company even donated two Beer Cams to the brewery. Now you can watch our brewers in action and if you want to , report them to management for SLACKING!
So why Kickstarter?
It's cool, and it's all or nothing! Either we win or we lose. That is how it works and we are perfectly OK with that. It will be a challenge, but so is working with the federal govt and state govt! (One state employee could not even name our New York State Governor. Now that was a long day!) We figure if we can negotiate the morass that is our government - we can do just about anything else too!
It is also no risk to you! We are utilizing Kick starter, an online crowd-funding platform, to accept and manage pledges. Kick starter is an all or nothing funding program and we are required to tell them the minimum amount we need to get this project off the ground. If we don't succeed in meeting that goal, the project is cancelled, and no one's credit card is charged. If we meet or exceed our goal, Kick starter collects all of the pledged funding, deducts a processing fee, and gives it to us. We are hoping to exceed the goal and to add some really cool stretch goals.
How do I donate and where does the money go?
1.) Create a Kickstarter account. It's painless ... I swear!
2.) Login using your email and password (or Amazon account information).
3.) Donate! $1.00 minimum; no maximum.

What about us?
As the founder of the Fairport Brewing Company, Tim is a life long Fairport resident and a '83 grad of FHS. Tim has worked as an area sales manager in the medical device industry for almost 20 years.

Risks and challenges
There are always risks and challenges with any new business venture and we are hardly arrogant enough to dismiss them.
However, we are not young kids. Both of us have been in the business world for over 50 years between us. (Middle age does have it perks!) We know a thing or two between us about beer, business, and survival!
Most breweries on Kick Starter are in the concept stage. That is not the circumstance with us! We have ascended the learning curve, jumped through the paperwork, government red tape, built a working brewery, and operated retail sales since 2012! And we are kicking it!
We are working hard to bring to Rochester our craft beer and while there are risks in any endeavor - we feel optimistic that our combined experience in the business world, will guide us through the worst of them!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
