For the last couple of years I have been playing in different trios for audiences throughout the northeast. It’s now time to record and take my group to venues across the country and the world!
The trio is anchored by one of the deepest groovin’ drummers on the planet, Mike Nappi. Mike and I have been playing together for the last decade and I am so excited to finally have a recording session that will be not only exhilarating but comfortable as well! Mike has Recorded and Toured with some stellar musicians including Joe Diorio, David Berkman, J Geils, Kal David and Lucky Peterson to name a few.
Dave Livolsi is one of the most sought after bassists in the northeast. His recording credits include John Scofield, Bill Evans,Tower of Power Horns, and Sam Rivers to name a few! Dave’s pocket is joyous and he is capable of such nuanced interplay in a rhythm section that no matter what he lays down it inevitably sounds like exactly the right thing to do.
I have been writing music for different incarnations of trios for the last 10 years and it is exciting for me to not only record the latest batch of tunes but to be doing it in an environment that is very comfortable! The College of Saint Rose has offered to let us use their studios as well as their more than capable Chief engineer, Sean Wendell. Assisting Sean will be 3 interns from the College of Saint Rose who are students of mine. They will get us whatever we need in order to let us focus on what we need to do which is to perform and put forth the best recorded representation of our group! The studio is state of the art and feels like home to all involved!
To top everything off we are honored to have the incredible Malcolm Cecil, the brilliant producer/engineer who has worked closely with Stevie Wonder (Grammy award in 1971 for engineer of the year, Fullfillingness first finale), Gil Scott Heron, and The Isley Brothers to name a few. His resume reads like a music history listening assignment for the 20th century!
This project feels like all the stars are alligning and as a group we feel we are in the most fertile environment to record in. Now all we have to do is play! In order to make this incredible journey come to fruition we need some financial help. One thing that has held us back in the past is simply being able to finance a project of this magnitude. We have had to rush productions, perform in inadequate studio spaces, and work with people we have never worked with before. Now we have an opportunity to perform in a studio that we have all been in on numerous occasions, work with an engineer that is a close friend and colleague, have a total of four days to record in the studio which is unprecedented for us, and have the wonderful Malcolm Cecil at the helm! Kickstarter will enable us to raise the extra funds for us to pay for some things we are unable to personally fund at this time such as mixing/mastering, hotel rooms, food for the entire crew, and CD pressing. For the first time in our collective lives as a trio we are almost there and we hope if you believe in our project you will be able to contribute to help bring this recording to fruition!
