CorgiFields is based on a world of adventures and exploration in which you control a Welsh Corgi. You must help guide numerous sheep, overcoming obstacles and enemies insuring that they arrive safe and sound to their destination.
Along the way, you can explore beautiful landscapes and countless hidden treasures, which you can find thanks to the extraordinary sense of smell this race of dog possesses.
Among the treasures you can find collectibles and powerups that will help you fight villains and control the sheep beyond anything you can imagine. But be careful! There are also powerdowns that can interfere with your abilities. You have to choose what you eat wisely!
This crazy and comic-style game invites you to explore and at the same time it introduces a bit of strategy, where you can mark and defend your territory so none of your sheep get stolen. The action of the game happens during the four seasons of the year, so you have to adapt your abilities to accomplish the mission.
“In this PC game, we want to innovate the use of “flocking” as an artificial intelligence technique. It is usually used for the behaviour of troops in strategy games where, in most cases, the player has full control over the troop, selecting them as a group, steering them towards a certain point and ordering them. In this case, the player never has control over the “flocks” (in this case the sheep); he has to command them through the main character. This adds difficulty to the game and creates a new way of interacting with the characters, which, in our opinion, is very interesting and fun.”
About the main characters:
It is the life of the game! You can control this dog and it is how you interact with the rest of the characters and scenes in the game. The actions that can be seen in the pictures are the most important ones, but you will also be able to do many others like drinking, running, scratching, etc.
These adorable creatures are part of the herd you have to protect and bring to their destination. You will need to be skilful to be able to direct them and make sure they do not scatter because the wolf will eat them. To achieve this, you can push them or frighten them by barking to make them go where you want. Objects can be found during the game that will either help or hold you back in preforming your task. The more sheep that reach their destination and the better condition they are in, the larger the reward you will receive at the end of the game.
The sheep’s natural enemy will do anything to snatch them and eat them! As you make progress in the game, the wolf will find new techniques to steal the sheep and it will be harder to control.
From the left to the right:
- Howling: The wolf can summon other wolves when he needs help.
- Sheep Costume: This costume allows the wolf to move freely between the sheep without being detected. If the corgi barks at him, then the wolf will be unmasked and the sheep will run away.
- Tree Costume: With this costume the wolf won’t be detected by the sheep even if the corgi barks at him. The wolf only has to dress up with the tree costume and wait until the sheep approaches enough to kidnap them and run away. The only way to fight upon this behavior is making the wolf remember who this territory is from!
- Rockets: Allows the wolf to fly upon a targeted sheep and kidnap it. With this gadget, the wolf will be faster, but he won't be able to turn around easily. The corgi should put the targeted sheep out of his way to save her.
- Hot Air balloon: The wolf can catch the sheep safely from the heights even though he’s slower with this gadget. The corgi should take advantage of the hot air balloon slowness in order to protect the sheep.
If it is able to snatch some of the sheep, you will have the occasional possibility to recover them if you are able to find a secret object.
The Lobster Corgi:
This ghost dog, dressed as a lobster by humans, will be your guide in the game. It will teach you how the game works, it will assign you your missions and he will warn you of any possible dangers you might find.
It’s the loyal assistant that will follow you anywhere you go. Thanks to its sense of smell, the piggy is very useful in finding truffles and digging when finding hidden treasures. But you will have to be careful! You must protect your little partner because some wolves prefer bacon to sheep meat and if you don't succeed... only the bones will remain.
More game stuff:
On the bottom left corner there are three icons:
- The water: When some territory is being marked you use the water up.
That means that you'll have to explore the map to find and drink more water in order to continue marking territories.
- The fatigue: Corgis are an unstoppable running and barking machines, but after a while they naturally get tired. This icon indicates if you can continue running and barking.
- The Smell: This icon indicates the state of the smell sense which allows you to search for buried treasures.
You'll also be able to find the pig, the sheep and the hiding wolves in your surroundings. But you should use it moderately!
At the bottom there is an inventory with some items and powerups.
On the top left corner there is a mini-map, and on the top right corner there is a weather indicator.
Most scenarios in CorgiFields happen in fields. This is the reason why the setting changes naturally after a certain amount of time, with rain, thunder, lightning, sun, snow, etc. But these changes are not only for decoration. They will affect the Corgi and you will have to come up with different ways to explore and to round up the sheep. We want you to truly feel like a Welsh Corgi and to enjoy the sensation of running through fields and mountains in the most vivid way possible.
The game has countless hidden riches which you can find and obtain to later exchange for items in the game’s shop. You can also collect lots of coins in the form of bones if you manage to fulfil your missions and bring the largest amount of sheep to their destination safe and sound.
We based this character in the well known meme "Lawyer Corgi". This smart dressed corgi will sell you awesome items and powerups in the game's shop!
In the multiple levels, you will be able to find different types of items that can affect the dog both positively or negatively. So you will have to be careful with what you eat or touch!
Since we were little we have played and grown up with countless computer and console games. We have always had the idea to make a game, in a way returning all the hours we have spent enjoying playing games. One of the most recent and intense influences we have had, has been from the indie game we are followers of called Don’t Starve. Many developers choose pixel art or 3D for similar genres. We believe comic style still has great potential in the world of videogames, and that only this style can do it in the way that it does.
Why a corgi?
Who are we fooling? We Love Corgis! They are intelligent, affectionate and loving animals. They are our muse and inspiration, as they are to many other people. You only need to see the amount of memes circulating the web, some of which we have based characters of the game off of.
We are two friends who have known each other for more than ten years. We have degrees in computer engineering from the same university. We share the same passion for video games and we have had several experiences developing software for the university’s different departments and in the private sector.
Throughout the year, other people have joined the group, some of them old friends. It is for this reason we have been able to create this prototype to show our idea and make this game a reality. Both the team’s future and ours depend on the success of this project!
Game progress and status:
This past year we have dedicated all our efforts into shaping our idea. To make this idea public we have created a functional prototype, from which we created a promotional video for this Kickstarter using small gameplays.
We have spent many hours designing and programming throughout the elaboration of the prototype. We have also created the music you see in the trailer. It has been an intense experience, at times difficult. Despite this, we have enjoyed it and we cannot wait to present a finished product.
Unfortunately, finishing this game by ourselves in the short term is nearly impossible. It is for this reason that we have decided to approach the Kickstarter community. With your help, artists and animators will be able to continue their work and we will be able to pay for other expenses and services which are necessary to insure the game makes it to the shops. We will be able to finalize the development of the game in a reasonable time frame.
The CorgiFields’s characters have 8 views (3 of them are mirrored). The animations are all between 8 and 13 frames and they must be re-drawn for each character’s action. This is really crazy if you think about it! The corgi character, for example, has at least 10 different actions. In order to complete the game we must draw at least 400 different animations which means we have to make thousands of drawings!
Only with your help and support can we make this game a reality!
Where does my money go?
What will you receive for giving us support? We will explain it in detail in the following table. The more support you give us the more you will receive in return!
(*)Note: The objects that appear on the images, except the compact Oldschool and the three character figures, symbolize digital rewards detailed below.
These handmade figures represent the main characters of the game. They have been carefully crafted by Lorena Iglesias, exclusively for this Kickstarter!
The Compact Old School:
We would be really grateful to hear your opinion! You can do that through Steam, the game’s web, as well as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc.
We will keep you informed of our progress through the previously mentioned social networks and also periodic updates that we will add to the Kickstarter website until the game is ready.
Once again, a sincere thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us to make CorgiFields a reality. If you cannot collaborate with a pledge for whatever reason and you like the game, you can also help us be voting in Steam Greenlight or sharing this site with your family and friends.
- Will the final release of the game have the same characteristics as the video?
The video is a functioning prototype. It is our intention to add details that we believe will improve the aesthetics and give it a richness that is reflected in the promotional video. However, the final release will contain at least the same artistic quality as the promotional video. We will do everything in our power to improve that which we think can be improved.
- Can I choose any name that I want to appear in the game (real name or nickname)?
Yes, so long as it is a pseudonym or nickname. Under no circumstances can the name be offensive (xenophobic, racist, objectionable, political, sexual, etc.) and it must be considered legal.
- Is the shipping cost included in the reward price?
Yes, all of the shipping costs are included in the prices of the pledges.
- Will this have native controller support on the PC?
Yes! We are working so that it is possible to play the game with a mouse and keyboard or with controllers.
- Which platforms are you targeting?
This game is PC-oriented and can be played on Windows and Linux. The plan is to launch a Mac version if the first stretch goal is achieved.
- How many hours of gameplay can we expect?
It is difficult to say how many hours of gameplay there are because the number depends on the game player’s ability. After creating the prototype and taking into account the ideas we have planned, there will be a minimum of 10 hours of gameplay. However, that number could be much higher.
- What happens if the Kickstarter campaign is unsuccessful?
We have every intention of completing the game at all costs. We have already spent a lot of time on this project and it has become quite personal to us. The development of the game will possibly take longer than expected and for this reason team members will have to find part-time jobs in order to finish CorgiFields.
- System Requirements:
The system requirements are subject to change. We are making the best efford ensure that the game will run on as many machines as possible. With the prototype we still can't ensure what requirements will finally be.OS: Windows (XP/Vista/7) o Linux
Processor: 2ghz Core 2 Duo
Memory: 512 MB
Graphics: OpenGL 2.0 Support, 256 MB (Dedicated graphics card)
Minimum Resolution: 1280 x 720
- I have purchased one of the pledges requiring shipment. When will it be mailed?
We will mail you the shipment when the final version of the game is published. We want the game to be delivered to everyone that has made the appropriate pledge as soon as possible and at the same time. Depending on where you live, the delivery could take a longer (or shorter) time. Fortunately, everyone who has made a pledge requiring shipment will also have a digital key which permits you to play the game while the physical game is still in transit.
- Where are you in the development of the game? Regarding the prototype, the time that we have dedicated has been directed towards the graphics engine and developing a solid base to see the system capacity and its viability. We have been programming with the intention of improving the artificial intelligence of the sheep and the wolf among other things. The physics, rendering, layer distribution and background music recording among other things are in the advanced stages. We would like to improve performance so that the game works on older processors too.
- Will the game be DRM free? At the moment, it has already been published on Steam Greenlight and with your help we can become part of the Steam catalogue. Aside from what happens with Steam, we will offer a DRM-Free version to everyone who has provided us support.
- Can I provide any type of photograph for the "Photographer" pledge? Yes, so long as it is not morally offensive (containing xenophobic, racist, objectionable, polítical, sexual, content etc.) or are subject to any legal restrictions.
Risks and challenges
As software experts we are conscious of the risks and challenges that these types of projects represent. It is for this reason that we would like to mention that we will not publish the game for the sole reason of meeting the release date. It will only be released when we are convinced of the game’s quality. It is possible that we will need extra time to assure that our work is of the highest quality. However, it is our every intention to fulfil to the best of our abilities the planned deadlines.
We hope that the beta version, which will be released earlier, will help us to achieve the level of quality we have set for the game, thanks to your support.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
