Ocote Soul Sounds has been creating elaborate, cinematic Latin funk music since 2004. We've recorded four albums in the studio but have done limited touring because of a lack of resources to do it properly. Rather than travel with a skeleton crew of musicians or use cold technological substitutes like samples or pre-recorded tracks, we have opted to build our base in Austin, perform locally with the full band, and make more records.
Things have changed. This past May, we released Taurus, our fourth album, which has stayed at the top of the Jazzweek and CMJ World Music charts and has received enthusiastic airplay from public and college radio stations across North America. This has led for greater demand to take our music on the road. Shortly after the album's release, we were approached by a fantastic booking agency--Red Ryder--from Chicago, and set to work doing the impossible: planning a tour.
The good news: The entire December Southwest/West Coast/Rockies tour is already booked and dates are confirmed in the following cities: Albuquerque, Tucson, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Salt Lake City, and Denver. (Click here for entire tour schedule). We're also working on an upcoming East Coast tour in early 2012.
The bad news: The guaranteed income from the confirmed shows will only allow us to bring 4 musicians. It takes 8 musicians to faithfully breathe life into the music and the arrangements. To bridge this gap, we need to do independent fundraising to make the tour happen, and that's where we need you!
What you can do: We're calling on fans, friends, family and generous strangers to help us in this effort by creating a Kickstarter campaign where you can donate and receive rewards in the form of CDs, rare out-of-print vinyl, tee-shirts, pins, mixtapes, and all sorts of unique thank-you gifts such as music lessons and delicious home-cooked meals from members of the band.
We'll use the funds raised in this Kickstarter campaign for the following:
Van rental, fuel, and lodging expenses
Flights for our musicians who live in DC and NYC
Pay a decent wage to the 8 fantastic musicians in the band (2 guitars, bass, drums, congas, flute, sax, keys) and one crew member.
