Fantasy Facades are a new kind of 3D terrain for your tabletop RPG, brought to you by Bannerless Builds. Quick to set up, evocative during play, and easy to store, Fantasy Facades offer everything Game Masters and players want from their 3D terrain without the traditional issues.
“I enjoy the Bannerlesss Builds system of rearranging and locking different terrain pieces into place. This allows for a more dynamic scene or game space that can be created. As a painter, I really like the stylized feel of the terrain as well as the open spaces to place freehand or customize store fronts.”
Elizabeth Beckley, Miniature Monthly
"I'm a huge fan of 3-D terrain, to boost the visual impact of my games and to help make it clear exactly where important features are. But once players have their character sheets, books, dice, and snacks on a tabletop, there often isn't a lot of room left for full-sized buildings. I'm excited by the option of just having Fantasy Facades, which can give me the visual impact I want without crowding d20s and Doritos off the tabletop!"
Owen KC Stephens, Starfinder Design Lead
"I’m in love with this concept, and the execution matches the dream. Easy to store, easy to set up and manage, and easy to make your own. I can reach over the screen and set up a simple street in seconds, or prebuild a whole area in minutes. One box at the side of the table, and I know I can keep up with whatever my players decide to do, and one afternoon behind a brush, and I can customize the feel of the façade to my campaign."

Bannerless Builds is the result of years of passion and study by our lead designer, Gregory Bowes, a lifetime gamer who studied theatre set design in university and worked with Shakespeare in the Park productions in Montreal.
Greg needed a solution for how much space the terrain collection he’d built over the years needed, and how long it took to set up. Inspiration came from an unlikely source; in his own words, “One night I was watching Blazing Saddles and the scene where they recreate the town near the end made a lot of sense to me, in that they had to do it quickly. At that point it all just clicked in my head.”
By applying his theatre experience to the tabletop, Greg was able to minimize the footprint of his scenery while maintaining his love for 3D terrain. As Greg puts it, “I fell in love with 3D gaming when I owned my own game store and used to play wargames with customers. I tend to think more creatively in 3D. One example was in a recent game when the bad guy was escaping from us, up some stairs while his minions kept us at bay. As the mage I blasted the stairs apart under him, causing him to fall.”
We are offering three unlimited backer levels and a limited backer level for game stores. Each level provides backers with a mix of Fantasy Facades (and enough Connector Kits to use them all at once) and our custom terrain pieces, all for a significant discount.
We have added a limited amount of hand-painted options. Check the updates for more information.
Additionally, all backers will gain access to the Bannerless Builds PledgeManager for add-ons and shipping estimates. See below for more information on PledgeManager.
In case you were curious, Fantasy Facades are tough. To show how tough, Greg and the Know Direction podcast's Ryan Costello ran a series of stress tests, starting here:
Follow Bannerless Builds on Facebook for the latest Stress Test in the series.
Because of the variety of add-ons available, and the significant difference between the weights of our Fantasy Facades and our terrain pieces, calculating each backer's shipping cost beforehand is difficult. Below is an infographic of the estimated shipping costs to ship each item.
Shipping estimates are in CAD.
PledgeManager will be able to calculate your exact shipping cost based on the weights of the items you select and and the shipping rates to your location.
PledgeManager is a Kickstarter check-out service that lets you customize your order and lets us efficiently track individual customer add-ons.
When you pledge, you can choose to either:
- Add the costs of your add-ons to your pledge when you back;
- Pledge the cost of your backer level and worry about add-ons after the fact.
Either way, you will be charged the same amount for your order.
Risks and challenges
All products pictured are beyond the design phase at this point. Even if our designer suffers a terrible accident that prevents him from ever creating another new product (which we obviously hope does not happen), the products either as production-ready moulds Production is handled in our Montreal warehouse, meaning the only hands that handle your order between pre-production and shipping are under our direct control.
Our schedule includes enough lead time to contend for common issues. However, if the campaign overfunds beyond our expectations, we will need to create additional moulds and increase production. If we succeed beyond what we are prepared for, there may be some delays in delivery.
Our production process allows us to prepare and deliver in batches before the whole order is complete, so in the event of delays in delivery, we will be delivering orders based on when they were placed, starting with the oldest orders. Otherwise, major delays should only be expected as a result of catastrophic events.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
