Cancer isn't funny. We know that. There's no right, or wrong, way to approach it, but what helps us cope is to laugh. And it's ok to laugh at cancer. Everyone hates cancer.
Last January, I was diagnosed with double-hit diffuse large B cell Lymphoma, basically, an aggressive and rare form of a blood cancer. After a bunch of chemo and radiation, the cancer's ass has been kicked and I am in complete remission. During my treatment, I realized that I wanted to define cancer, not the other way around. So I wrote this coloring & activity book, full of puzzles, coloring, mazes, word finds, dot to dots, and other fun stuff. Because it turns out, the best way for my friends, family, doctors, nurses, and me, to beat cancer into a pulp, was to laugh.
The book began organically. I started to write, and my friend and colleague at Nike, Mark Smith, started to sketch. The coloring & activities helped me laugh at the daily challenges of my treatment, and my attitude helped set the tone for everyone affected by my diagnosis. It also helped the other cancer patients around me, who were experiencing similar emotions and heavy treatments; people were laughing, taking control, and feeling like they weren't alone. Which made being stuck in the hospital together a whole lot more fun. Our mission is simple.... we want to bring laughter to everyone affected by a cancer diagnosis.
