Blackwall Carabiners are designed to gather bights of rope (also known as 'loops') to form a harness, then unravel once tension is released. The wire gate prevents rope from accidentally falling within the frame during use. It lets you lower multiple items without having to go with them. The idea came to me while bringing down Christmas decorations from the attic. I didn't want to climb in and out for every box so I looked online for something. The only systems available were industrial sized, overly heavy, or unreasonably expensive. This is my answer. Now you can lower several boxes in one trip. It has other uses too: (scroll for pictures)
• Quick Release harness (single or multi-bight)
• Four point hooked harness
• Single loop knotless gear tie
• Double-cross knotless gear tie
Here's the plan. First, I will have these cut with a water-jet and anodized. Then I'll get custom spring gates made. I will personally mill them, place the spring gates, and ship them to your front door. It's easier said then done but, with your support I will take this prototype to production. Your support is needed to create minimum production runs and needed tooling for the project. I invite you in every step of the way. Of course, all it will be done in the USA!
I have done several projects here on Kickstarter. Please check out my bio to see them. With every project I like to add a new design elements to my creations. This will be my first project using the anodizing process, a milled edge and, incorporating a wire spring gate into one of my designs.
Demo harness release.
Blackwall Carabiners will be awesome the next time you move into a new home. Now you won't have to go up and down the stairs so many times. For less then the cost of a bottle of Advil, you can have one too!
WARNING • CAUTION • DANGER: Never use Blackwall Carabiners where it's failure or dislodging might cause bodily harm or property damage. Always use good judgment. Failure to Follow these warnings can result in severe injury, death, or property damage. Not for climbing. Stay safe.
A "blackwall" hitch is a is a means of securing a rope to a hook. It allows you to increase tension without untying your rope.
Who we are
I'm Brent. Product design is my passion. Kickstarter is a great way to connect with people from around the world. With you in mind I'm able to see what backers like and what they don't. My goal is to create gear you can take with you on the go. So whether you're on foot, pedal, or tires, I have something designed for you. Together, with my wife Laura, we eventually offer my creations on our website, awesome for sale.
BIGHTER HOOKS will not be available on our site until all backers get their reward.
Risks and challenges
Design Changes. Your opinion matters to us. There are design points we want to test and finalize. Right now this is where we're at. As this project moves along we'll ask you what you think. We’ll take your input and make design changes to accommodate our backer’s general preference. That being said we won’t be able to please everyone 100% of the time. There won’t be any radical changes, but the final product may have modifications when all is said and done. Any changes are intended to improve what arrives at your doorstep.
Project delays. Large scale manufacturing can delay completion. The larger an order the longer the lead time will be. If we get to the point where we need help fabricating, finding that help will take time. We've had experiences where folks tell us they can do a certain service but then find out it was past their capability.
We are a small business trying to make cool stuff. We are not a traditional large scale operation and we do not a have a dedicated facility or full time staff. I am a regular guy with a wife, 4 kids, and a full time job. Product design is my 2nd job/passion. Large projects can be delayed simply because of how many physical parts need to be touched, processed, and sorted. We get things done though. Check my past projects for credibility.
Lost or damaged packages. We will put your pledge in a postal worthy sealed box and transfer it to the United States Postal Office for delivery. International packages may take up to 8 weeks to clear customs and finally deliver. We cannot control how the post office treats your package once they take possession of it. We will help backers who receive an empty or damaged package, or no package at all. However, we can only do this until reserves set aside for this are depleted. All packages will have a tracking number which we will email to you. If your package is lost we may ask you to file a claim with your local post office to help correct the problem.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
