Last year over 300 amazing backers helped us bring Board Game Bowls to life and now we're back with some upgrades. We now have an extra large (XL) bowl to hold all those big component groups. As well as the new XL bowl we are upgrading our themes. We have partnered with Giovanni Meroni to create some incredible geometric artwork - perfect for engraving.
We created Board Game Bowls because we couldn’t find anything classy to hold our board game components during play. Usually we just used household containers but all the designs clashed and it was hard to find ones the right size. Most of the options available were either too big or too small, fit some components and not others and generally were not very user friendly. We like good design and appreciate the effort board game creators have gone to with their craft - we wanted something to match.
So last year here on Kickstarter, Board Game Bowls were born. They’re custom made from wood and crafted to ensure the design and contours are just right for drawing components from the bowls - not too steep or too shallow or too angular. Board Game Bowls are a perfect match for modern designer board games. We designed a bowl that is simple and minimal which means it unifies with each board game you play.
The extra large bowl
Over the last year we have recieved a lot of great feedback from everyone who has been using Board Game Bowls. One thing that kept being suggested was a larger bowl size.
Now you have this option.
The BGB extra large (XL) bowl is 150mm (5.9”) in diameter and 32mm (1.25”) high. It matches in perfectly with our existing bowls. These extra large bowls are perfect for games with large component groups and help clean up clutter without big mounds and piles. We’ve found them super useful for holding everything from tiles to coins to minis. Sometimes you just need a slightly bigger container to hold everything and our XL bowl allows you to do that.
If you want to get a better idea of the size, you can print off this PDF at 100%.
The new designs
As well as our new XL bowl we are upgrading the artwork options. We were looking for a solution to make our artwork more consistent, more engraver friendly and more generic so that it would fit with different games without getting too specific. We have partnered with the the incredible Giovanni Meroni from Thirdway Industries in Italy. Giovanni is somewhat of a legend on Kickstarter with some awesome projects to date. You can check out his latest one here and follow the links to see others.
We have three new designs Horizons, Victory, and Infinity. Our Infinity design was unlocked at $25,000.
HORIZONS - This design combines the elements we love of steampunk with adventure and exploration.
VICTORY - For this design we have taken inspiration from ancient history, mythology, dungeons and dragons, and medieval Europe.
INFINITY - This design is inspired by alien tech and interstellar colonisation.
The new designs allow a better engraving result with an almost 3D finish.
We are phasing out our old designs and this campaign will be the last time they will be available. Don't forget, only one engraving is available per reward. If you want custom engravings or a range of designs, select the Custom Engraving tier or the Individual Bowls tier.
Here are the designs (both new and old) that you can choose from in this campaign.
We are doing something a little different this year with our rewards. As well as pre determined bundles we have the option for you to select individual bowls. If you want to choose individual bowls, select the $8 reward and add to your pledge amount the combined total of your desired quantity of bowls. The bowls are priced as follows
- 1x Small Bowl - $8
- 1x Medium Bowl - $10
- 1x Large Bowl - $13
- 1x XL Bowl - $15
So if you would like 1 extra large bowls, 2 large bowls, and 4 medium bowls your total would come to $81. Remember shipping is included in the price so there is no additional charge for shipping if you chose this option.
Our stretch goals are:
$25,000 - INFINITY design (UNLOCKED)
$30,000 - leather-like drawstring bag (UNLOCKED)
Our big stretch goal which we are super excited about is a brand new leather like draw string bag for only $10. This bag is perfect for carrying your board game bowls in and it is also great as a draw bag for tile placement games like Carcassonne and Drakon. See some of the photos below.
Who we are
Aside from working on creative projects, Cameron loves his board games - Agricola to Zertz. Admittedly Eurogames are his first love, but he also has time for games of other genres. His time on the team often involves brainstorming new initiatives and new products with Nick and Janna-Lee, as well as liaising with artists.
Most of the time you can find Nick in the factory or at his computer overseeing Board Game Bowl design, production and logistics. Nick is the one to pull everything together so if the bottom drops out, you can probably blame him!
Meroni is a web art director and illustrator from Milan, Italy. In 2014, after 10+ years of pushing pixels and vectors, he wanted to make something physical, and started producing playing cards with the brand Thirdway Industries. So far, he has printed more than 40,000 decks with 19 different sets of designs. He has also produced coins, engraved cases and other products. He loves strong colors, sharp illustrations, deep stories, mythology, and pretty queens. Check out Giovanni's work at www.thirdwayindustries.com
Risks and challenges
This is our second Kickstarter and we know a lot more than we did at the beginning of our first campaign. This time we have a confirmed and proven manufacturer, we have a good logistics process and good partnerships. But as always there are risks. Delays are always a risk but we have put in place buffers at all stages of the process to deal with this.
We want you to have your bowls soon, as much as you do, and will be working super hard over the next few months to make this happen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
