About this project
We are making a feature length film, and it's all about ohana.
The goal of the film is to tell the story of the HURT ohana, or family, that has guided runners on this 100 mile journey for nearly 20 years. All who have participated in the HURT 100 have come to cherish and embrace the ohana that exists here. This film is to share with the world how it all began and how it has become one of the most iconic and memorable races on the globe. It will feature the founding members of HURT, past finishers, committed race volunteers and many others who are proud to call themselves a part of the HURT ohana. Please join the HURT ohana in bringing this film to life to celebrate the unique communities around the globe who embrace adventure and challenge!
Please check out www.hurt100film.com for more details about the filmmakers and their previous work. We plan to submit the film to multiple film festivals in the summer of 2017 with the hope that our supporters can watch the film with their family friends in a theater. After this, the film will be distributed on Vimeo. Significant portions of filming have already been completed at the 2017 HURT 100 and we plan on returning to O'ahu for more in depth interviews in the coming months.
Risks and challenges
We have a top notch team of professional filmmakers to see this project to completion. In 2016 Bryson Steele and Steven Mortinson completed a feature length trail running film, "One Step at a Time," which has received much acclaim: www.vimeo.com/stevenmortinson/onestep
We have already captured fantastic footage of the January 2017 HURT 100, and we are ready to return to Hawaii to conduct the full interviews and filming that will allow us to complete the film. We are committed to seeing this through and have received the full blessing of John and PJ Salmonson, HURT 100 race directors.
