About

The Reasoning

At the beginning of Summer I decided to travel to the wonderful country of Iceland. It became a lot more to than what I thought, it felt like home.

I decided for my final year project that I wanted to go back, and document all the things I learnt about the people, all the tales they told me and all the little things they believed in to help them cope with the harsh weather and geographical conditions of the country. It made me think that in the UK we take so many things for granted and have almost lost our sense of belief in folklore and other old fashion tales. I want to make people understand and be more open to other peoples beliefs and cultures which I think is a huge problem in modern society.

In order to document them in a way which is contemporary, I want to focus on fashion photography, which is a more creative way to express these tales to the human knowledge.

I will be developing my work based on the folklore and beliefs of the Icelandic people, here is a mood board for the tale of the 'Mermaid Wife' a folklore told in Iceland. I am currently studying this tale to develop a small clothing collection and photos

The Plan

It would all fall apart if I didn't have a plan wouldn't it? The plan is to take me and another to the beautiful landscapes of Iceland and to photograph these stories using my fashion photography skills from university. Each editorial shoot will include 10 - 12 High res digital images, one model and all the outfits I have created for each shoot. Each editorial shoot will be inspired by one tale/folklore story told in Iceland. I am hoping to do one main shoot and two smaller ones. The shoot is for my final degree project at University and will be used to enter the photography competition at Graduate Fashion Week.

Where Your Donation Goes

My flights to Iceland and back home, to help me rent a car to travel around the country to get to these outstanding locations, the money to hire the professional models for a few days, all your rewards, cost to print and to help rent a exhibition space so you lovely people can actually come and see my work. The funding will also go towards my work to be displayed at Graduate fashion week in london and funding of the printed book to document the work.

Risks and challenges

The risks is the weather conditions in Iceland, it varies and seems to change every 15 minutes. Although this could be very challenging I'm hoping this will give more depth to my images. I'm hoping to overcome this by giving myself a lot of time to shoot each editorial story. By saving for the project and with your donations I will be able to stay longer in order to fix any complications due to the weather.

Another challenge is to get everything edited and displayed on time for my final deadline and for the exhibition, I believe I can overcome this with your support and me keeping to schedule.
