Update #2

WE DID IT!!

Comment

Hello friends, Kickstarter supporters, and fellow film enthusiasts!

Thank you so much for pledging your support of this year's Summer Series of free movie classics on the beach!  I am so very happy to report that we have reached our goal of $2,500!!

For those unfamiliar with Kickstarter, this means that upon the completion of the Kickstarter campaign, your donations will be processed, and your premiums will be distributed (Membership cards, etc.).  Our campaign has 30 hours to go, so expect those donations to be processed early-to-mid next week.

Our goal to bring this year's wonderful lineup of film classics to the beach couldn't have happened without your support, and your vision and enthusiasm for a cool outdoor event that couples cinema with community.  I want to once again thank Fish Tale - Long Beach's oldest seafood restaurant! - for jumping in with a $750 Matching Gift Challenge.  Fish Tale has shown their support of the arts - let's all support Fish Tale!!

Thanks again everyone!  Please e-mail me at logan@lbcinema.org if you have any questions regarding the campaign, or simply to keep in touch!

See you on the beach!

Logan Crow

Executive Director, Long Beach Cinematheque

Update #1

"The Muppet Movie," "The Jerk," and "DRIVE" added to this year's lineup!

Comment

Hello friends and supporters!!

I am pleased to announce that thanks to your pledged support, we have already added three titles to our lineup!

On Tuesday, July 17, we are pleased to present the original 1979 classic THE MUPPET MOVIE!  Sing along to "The Rainbow Connection" in the first big-screen adventure of Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the gang!

On Wednesday, July 25, we are very excited to screen the winning pick from our Academy Awards contest earlier this year - Jenny G's pick, THE JERK!  Also from 1979, this hilarious Carl Reiner film marked Steve Martin's first starring role, and features a memorable turn by Bernadette Peters.  A great comedy classic!

Finally, we are thrilled to officially announce our pick for Monday, August 6th - Nicolas Winding Refn's DRIVE, released just this past year.  Winner of over 40 international awards - including the Cannes Film Festival award for Best Director, and over a dozen Best Supporting Actor awards for Albert Brooks as the violent Bernie Rose - Drive is a stylish cinematic masterpiece that was criminally underseen, yet achieved almost overnight cult status.  Long Beach DJ Chris "Oldboy" Lynch will be opening the evening with a set of Drive-inspired music - don't miss this rare chance to see one of the best reviewed films of 2011, for free and on the shores of Long Beach!

ONLY 19 DAYS TO GO until our campaign ends!!  Upon successfully reaching our goal (fingers crossed!), we will be sending out Membership Cards and other pledge premiums - we are already excited to welcome so many new Members!!  And don't worry Members - your Memberships will begin upon the mailing of your cards, not back when you pledged.

Thanks everyone!!  See you on the beach!

Simple - you get to pick a movie. Any movie. And we'll play it on the beach. We'll even give you credit on the program for having picked it, complete with an interview as to why you feel the film deserved a public screening on the beach. CAVEATS! - A) The movie must be available for exhibition. B) Please consider content of graphic violence, nudity, and adult themes when selecting your pick.
