We're releasing new music. But we need you to make the first move.
Hi! We're The Good Years (Josh + Jordan). We're an independent writing duo from Upstate, New York who write songs about love, loss and growing up. We met doing musical theater together in high school, and have been close friends for 8 years. Also, Josh has a dog named brown sugar (I guess I just wanted you to know that).
We've written most of our songs via FaceTime as Josh has spent the last year of his life in Nashville, TN, while Jordan attends university in Lakeland, FL. We've traveled back and forth to each other for a while to write songs, record, watch movies, and just live our lives. But it's time to take the next step. Josh is traveling down to FL to write and record the next phase of Good Years music. After that, maybe even a tour. But more on that later. This is the part where you come in.
We're making more music! It's quite simple, really. Our goal is to put out a new single (or two) this summer, and a full EP by October or late 2019. We've been writing together for over a year now, and the 6 songs we released in October were a huge start— but we're ready for more. Your donations will go toward the recording and releasing of a brand new EP. New songs. New producers. New Sounds. Same Good Years. Once we've released our second EP, The Good Years will have more opportunities to do shows and take this thing on the road.
In October of 2018, we released our first ever EP called Homesick. We had the chance to record it in our hometown of Syracuse, NY at Subcat Studios— and it blew our minds. What an incredible experience from start to finish we had recording those songs. Since first releasing music in 2018, The Good Years have racked up nearly 300,000 streams on Spotify ALONE, and that number continues to climb weekly. We want to use that momentum to push forward into 2019 and release even more of the tunes we've been writing.
In order for that to happen, we have 3 specific needs that your donation will go to. The first, travel expenses, is so Josh can get himself down to Florida. That involves time off, gas money, food, and other similar expenses. We estimate that $1,000 should get him there and settled in. The second need is studio time. Honestly, we're expecting studio time and working with various producers to ultimately cost more than $2,300, but we've decided to keep this number smaller in order to ensure that we reach our goal (otherwise, we don't get to keep any of your donations!) $2,300 will ensure that we get to record and release a single or two just in time for Summer 2019 and then secure a deposit for more studio time, ultimately so we can finish the EP throughout the rest of 2019. The last $200 is for promotion and release of our music throughout the year. That includes the cost to upload our music to streaming services, album art, promotional advertising, and other such costs.
Josh and I racked our brains together to figure out what we could offer you guys that we would be psyched about ourselves. So we came up with some pretty rad options! We have multiple rewards that involve digital downloads of our old music and our new music, including some pretty rare and special iPhone voice demos/acoustic versions of songs that we haven't shared or shown to anyone. We also created an exclusive facebook group and if you claim that reward, you'll be invited into it and receive exclusive updates from the recording of our new music, including posts, photos, videos, and song snippets that we won't be sharing anywhere else. It's like a little group chat. We love that.
We're also offering an original song just for you, based off two words of your choosing. Just pick two of your favorite words, or two words you never thought anyone could write a song around, and we'll try and beat the odds! We'll send it to you and maybe even share it if you think it's good.
Lastly, The Good Years will come to you for a special acoustic concert/jam session of sorts. Unfortunately due to travel restrictions, we can only offer this reward to people located in the states of Florida, Tennessee, or New York. If you're in one of those 3 states, you're good! We'll come and perform any songs of your choosing. It can be Good Years stuff, or T-Swift. Whatever your jam is, it's ours as well that night.
Seriously, it can't be said enough how grateful we are for all of you. If you're reading this, chances are you've listened to our songs, or supported us in one way or another, and we couldn't be more grateful. Writing and releasing these songs has been the greatest privilege and the sweetest time in our lives. We're treasuring every second of it. So if you decide to give, just know that we love you, and we value the time you've taken to even read this. We hope you love the songs we have the honor to release over the next year and beyond. All our love. Josh and Jordan.
Risks and challenges
Recording music is a wild experience. If you've ever done it, you know that the process can sometimes shift unexpectedly. If the song isn't turning out how you thought, or the schedules of producers/musicians is conflicting, it can delay the project. As for us, the timeline to record is slim. If we can be fully funded by mid-April we *should* our first single out and in your hands by June 1st. Then we're looking at a Fall 2019 EP release date. If things get delayed or drawbacks occur, we're looking at a mid-summer release date for the single, and a Winter 2019 EP release date. We'll be honest and transparent with you the whole way through this project- giving you updates as often as we can! Because we love and appreciate you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
