A blend of turn-based ground combat and strategic command, Xenonauts puts you in charge of defending the world from alien invasion!
A blend of turn-based ground combat and strategic command, Xenonauts puts you in charge of defending the world from alien invasion!
4,668 backers pledged $154,715 to help bring this project to life.

So, what happens now?

We've had a great run over the past 48 hours, and were officially funded about half an hour ago at a final total of $154,715 or 309% of our original $50,000 target. This is fantastic; we didn't expect to raise this much money a few days ago and to be honest it has not yet sunk in fully.

As a direct result of the Kickstarter, the following features will be added to the game:

  • Dedicated level designer!
  • Indoor terror missions!
  • Soviet Town tileset!
  • Tileset-specific AI soldiers!
  • Female soldiers!
  • Mac / Linux port on release!
  • The new UI design will be rolled out across the whole game (ideally with the background art updating as you research new technology)!
  • Soldier combat medal system!
  • Battlefield suppression mechanics!
  • Animated battlefield tiles!
  • A DRM-free version of the game on release!
  • 80 extra soldier portaits!

The money raised will also be used to generally improve the quality of the final product beyond the specific points listed above. It will make a huge difference to the final product, so today has been a great result for everybody interested in seeing this project succeed.

So, what happens now? It's gone 1am in the UK, so the first thing I'm going to do is get some sleep. When I wake up, I'll get to work sorting out the rewards.

Having looked at the export functionality on the Kickstarter, I expect we'll be able to send out all of the Desura keys tomorrow. These will allow all backers to access pre-order builds of the game until release, at which point we'll distribute keys on Steam, Desura or GamersGate (and possibly other places too).

The current build of the game on Desura is the same as the public demo on the Kickstarter page, and we're planning to release our next pre-order build next weekend. That'll give us a few days to get our ducks in a row, as well as let anyone who is having trouble with Desura work through their issues before then.

For those who have pledged for Premium pre-orders, we'll be creating an area in our forums where the Premium pre-order rewards will be able to be claimed once they arrive. A message will be sent out tomorrow explaining how this will work.

If you've pledged at a level of $50 or above, and so will be recieving extra rewards, we'll be sending out a survey tomorrow that will capture your chosen rewards and the details required to send them to you. Again, we'll send out messages to these groups with more specifics tomorrow.

Finally, the money that has arrived in our Amazon account is about $10,000 short of the amount pledged, once fees have been taken into account (although it is creeping up by the minute). This shortfall has been caused by payments bouncing. If this has happened, you'll have an email from Amazon and I think they'll be chasing you over the payment too.

If you're one of these people, please make your payment as soon as possible - ideally in the next few hours. We won't be supplying the rewards to people until they've paid for them, but as we'll start sending out the Desura keys tomorrow (and it's a largely automated process) there's a chance you'll be delayed in recieving yours if you pay late, as we may have to process them manually. If you pay in the next 12 hours or so, that won't affect you.

In closing, I'd just once again like to thank everyone who helped us out either by backing the project or by spreading the word over the course of our Kickstarter on behalf of the entire team. We really appreciate it, and from tomorrow morning we'll redouble our efforts on getting this game finished as quickly and to as high a standard as we can.

I think that rather than a dedicated level designer, you'd get much more cash out of the community if you got another dedicated character artist. Think of all the potential cannon-fodder. :) Well, anyway, good luck with your final development phase.

I've been following the development of Xenonaughts since I first saw it on Kotaku. As a former xcom addict I've developed a bit of an infatuation here. I'm proud to call this my first kickstarter/ crowd source.

@nikolai: of course we will, and I'm certain the soldier will perform admirably as cannon fodder ;D

I can't tell you how excited I am to be a part of the creation of this amazing game (albeit with just giving a few donations).

I just hope people don't march my pre-generated soldier into certain death just for fun!

Very excited to see the beta build and happy to see this kind of support for a TBS game. Old school purists rejoice!

The final push to 150,000 was amazing. So happy with all the features KS has brought to this game. :)

Man this is great :) The funding really surged at the final hurdle, allowing a whole bunch of cool new features to be added :D...Although it is 1:30 now and I should get some sleep... X.X

      Awesome! I can't wait!

As I recall, amazon/kickstarter give you a week or two to update your payment info if the payment didn't go through.
HOWEVER, as the update says, since they have to manually process, if you don't do it quickly, you may be delayed in getting your desura key.
