"This is great for those who wanted an English dub, but I personally can't think of anybody but Rie Tanaka, Rina Satou, Jun Fukuyama, etc. as the voice of the characters. I know there are a lot of people who prefer to watch anime in English though, so this should be great for them.
I do hope that we can get word on the feasibility of other possible stretch goals being thrown around (Pale Cocoon/Mizu no Kotoba, digital soundtrack, the EnJ fanbook, manga, and/or LN, etc). Although personally I'm fine with just more money going back to Directions/Rikka. They deserve so much more for their hard work."
English Dub seem to be happening :)
Congratulations!! I must also say that I prefer to watch films in their original languages, but whatever, this is phenomenal news that you've got to this point of stretch goals. So excited! If some of the higher level rewards could be available again to those of us who missed out (if we can upgrade our pledge of course), then that too would be AMAZING!! X
I don't really care about a dub. Give us pale cocoon as well. Also, your higher goals (200/500) were not expensive enough. Set of scripts would have almost certainly sold for 1000-5000$.
Congratulations on the first stretch goal meet, keep 'em coming! ^^
I like this idea, but only conditional on getting really good people to do the dub. Dub quality for something like this tends to vary greatly depending on the writing, directing and acting quality.
I also like the other suggested ideas of including an OST as a stretch goal, or even Pale Cocoon/Aquatic Language if possible.
OST as a bonus with the bluray would be awesome!
I'm sure you know that, despite a few exceptions, English dub aren't really favoured for a lot of anime audiences and prefer Japanese dub + subtitle. Done well though, it would enhance the viewing experience of your audience since we can focus more on what's happening rather than to juggle between reading subtitle and absorbing the scene. Here's hoping that you guys can work it out to the best of you guys' abilities! Personally, I prefer a OST album though. More fantastic is a vinyl of it. :P
Oh and be sure to not overextend with the stretch goals too much. There's already a few high profile KS (video games at least) that bitten more than they could chew.
And just as a message to all of those worrying about the multi-language options now that the English dub has been announced as a stretch goal - don't worry. Everything is staying as is, except now there might also be an English dub on the blu-ray. We'll all still be able to watch it in the original with our EFIGS subtitles :)
Considering both Pale Cocoon and Aquatic Language have been produced and released in other territories, I wouldn't doubt they are trying to see the feasibility of getting them, but there are probably alot of legal loopholes to jump through before that can happen.
Also, I really hope they get a better company than the one they got for the dub of Aquatic Language - just watched it on Crunchyroll the other day and it was... Interesting to say the least. Like others have been saying though, I really don't think we'll have a problem reaching the 50,000 - wouldn't mind contemplating adding a sturdy art box or maybe a bigger artbook to the equation.
It's great you're hitting your stretch goal for a dub, but let me also +1 to what others have mentioned for the next stretch goal:
- Pale Cocoon & Mizu no Kotoba
- Soundtrack CD
I'm also curious if there will be other rewards levels. I would change/upgrade my pledge for those (since the higher levels are out)
English dubs don't really interest me, but glad to see there's a goal for those who would like it. I'll just be happy to own and support one of my favorite anime.
Hope it goes well, I'm personally more of a sub person myself but a dub will be good for some. Still, could you get back to us on the possibility of seeing Pale Cocoon & Mizu no Kotoba as part of the disc? They easily seem the most popular stretch goals people are interested in, so it would be nice to have an idea how feasible this would be.
Anyway, good luck!
Dubs makes it more accessible for some, so I'm glad that Time of eve gets one. However myself i prefer watching all media in the original language with subs in English or other languages I'm proficient in. Multi-language is the way to go! =)
50k looks like it will be breached fast, Pale Cocoon and Aquatic Language for the next goal sounds awesome! :D
If you make it to having the funding for the English dub, I am assuming that you will maintain a multi-language set of choices. In other words, Japanese with English subtitles or English dub and no subtitles. As with the works of Miyazaki, there are times (really depends) when I prefer the voices of the original Japanese talent and completely willing to read the subtitles.
Yes, prepare the next goals please. I'd love to see something like additional content in form of Pale Cocoon and Aquatic Language or maybe an OST-CD.
You absolutely need to think already about the next goal, 50'000 wil be reached at least tomorrow i think. Btw, love you guys for doing this.
You guys deserve some of the credit too. Awesome, wonderful anime. We wouldn't be here without it.
I've got no interest in a dub, personally, but for those who like that sort of thing I suppose this is something to get excited about!
wow thats awesome! with this announcement i wouldn't be surprised if it got to 50,000 within the day.
Say if we get to 1 mil make a full 13 episode TV Anime(not that the current is bad but more is always better)? :D
Or maybe a new side story in the same world...
This is great for those who wanted an English dub, but I personally can't think of anybody but Rie Tanaka, Rina Satou, Jun Fukuyama, etc. as the voice of the characters. I know there are a lot of people who prefer to watch anime in English though, so this should be great for them.

We will make it to 50,000 no problem. Time to think of the next one
