Nothing brings back more fond childhood memories to me than playing Ultima 3 or 4 or 5, or Phantasie 3, Bard's Tale, Demon's Winter, Dungeon Master ... too many games to list here.
Yet ... where are they now? Why is there only high-end 3D real-time MMO style games, even on mobile phones? And let's not talk about the many 3-in-a-row games. And everything is IAP, ads, paywall, wait-to-play, pay-to-win ...
This is not what games should be like, THIS IS WHAT GAMES SHOULD BE LIKE!
DUNGEONS OF CHAOS is a 2D, turn-based, pixel art tiles, CRPG. 6 character party, many tactical choices to make during character creation, skill and spell advancement, equipment choice, combat ... but it is not linear, and very few things you do can be regarded as mistakes. Lots of replay value, immersive story, plenty of exploration that can feel sandbox-like at times.
And yet ... after spending 50 hours playing this game, leaving a 5 star review and having done several playthroughs, you long for more!
So here it is: Dungeons of Chaos the expansion kickstarter campaign!

This project seeks to fund the expansion (as an update to the current app in the Google Play Store and Apple Store [no IAP]), from the basic 'chapter 3' storyline continuation, to many new features that are potentially developed. Backers can get many different rewards, get involved, vote on the order/dominance of features that should make it in, and be part of this exciting next step in the development of this game.
How the funds will be used, and what are the funding goals? Glad you asked!
I) Chapter 3 (FUNDING GOAL AU$3,500): storyline continued with the party finding themselves in the plane of chaos, and the main threat revealed and you have to explore the plane, escape, round up a plan to deal with the chaos threat and execute it. +15 hours gameplay. Warlock guild added. 20 new monsters. 2 new skills and 2 new spells. 10 new items. Around ~10 new maps of course with some never-ending mob spawns. 2 randomised grinding locations.
For every AU$1,500 over the original funding goal, I will add one feature package. What package of the below is chosen is voted on by kickstarter backers with the respective reward level to include voting rights.
A) Arena fights. Some NPC hosting arena events where you can face dangerous and strange mobs for achievements, XP, gold, rare items. Includes single player challenges, possibly used as guild quests to prove worthy and earn maybe insignia? Did i hear someone say ‘bunny’s big brother’?
B.1) More side quests I: the elf wars, the archmage’s guild, the minotaur clan
B.2) More side quests II: elemental planes, the druid’s cove, the return of the lich.
C) 4 additional skills. 4 additional spells. Dual wielding for melee classes, but with skill to make it effective. In-combat weapon swap cooldown skill. [this is a major coding exercise to widen all functions to accommodate these things]
D) Ability to summon allies that fight along side you in battle. And a ‘Jinx’ ability that lets you turn enemies temporarily into allies.
E) Item enchantment. Dwarf’s smithy under the mountain, temple of elemental powers, … all for a price of course. And/or chance to destroy the item. OR curse the item (which results in effectively a gold penalty after said is removed), if that feature package is unlocked.
F) Cursed items. Negative attributes layered on top of positive ones, and non-removable once worn. Hard to identify depending on their nature. Remove curses will be resource-intensive, to be confirmed how. After removal of curse, underlying item is useful.
G) Traps and dangerous terrain, disarm skill to avoid traps, resistance spells for map-view to counter out environmental damage and allow you to enter otherwise dangerous areas.
H) Other neat things: Notes you can place that show up as “!” in the walk view and as a highlight in the minimap. Fight obstacles and floor variants during fight, depending on where the fight takes place.
I) Make the home world bigger, so when you return there is a proper castle and city around it. Add variety in shops.
J) Achievements. And I don’t mean 10 achievements. I mean 100 achievements tracked in the app, and class-specific achievements that emphasise replay efforts and different party play through. Getting all 100 achievements will release a bonus feature not otherwise obtainable. [this is a major coding exercise to widen all functions to accommodate tracking these things]
It would take probably till March 2017 to create and implement chapter3, but if more features are unlocked it can take longer.

Risks and challenges
As some of you may be aware:
- I am a hobby developer, limited in time and skill
- I have a dayjob
- I have a family
- I can get sick
- I can suffer motivational downs (which can be overcome if everyone left a rating and review on the app stores)
So the project timeline is vague (chapter 3 released hopefully March 2017). But I have built this game twice so far, and expanded it, and made quick bug fixes. So I am confident I can get these milestones done, and if it slips a few months than probably because I found I can connect and weave the story through them all in an even better way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
