I noticed on the last page of the instructions it states "The Porthole is not intended for long-term infusions of alcohol". This is the 1st time I have seen this mentioned at all. So, what is the definition of "long-term"? Thanks, David
I am having trouble remembering what I ordered last September(2012.).I sort of remember making additional orders. I haven't received any glasses and thought I was supposed to get some, but can't access my paypal from back then. Can you please remind me what I am supposed to have received by now? Thanks

Well I tried to do the lemonade thing like in the video but it started leaking and the lemons fell out of place and started floating in the porthole. I'll try again some other time but at least I got a funny picture out of it XD
@Keith Suction cups would do the trick but what works well enough for me after loosening one screw is slightly tilting the porthole to one side with my hands covering both glass panes and the glass usually just releases into my hand. If the gaskets are preventing the glass from easily coming out, I'd cover the screw holes on the glass and blow into the spout to break the seal.
Got mine. Last day black backer. Haven't used it yet but first impressions are very nice, well worth the wait :)
We got them in yesterday and opened them up. I was impressed by the clearly high construction quality and design aesthetics. Even the packaging was obviously well thought out. My wife is quite a bit less excited about them than I was - I guess waiting a year for something can make a person lose interest.
No problems with leaking (I had read the earlier discussions about how to prevent leaks).
However I have noticed that it isn't easy to get the glass panes lifted out when disassembling a porthole. They are pretty heavy (which is good!) but that makes them not as easy to lift out. I don't want to pry at the edges of the glass (and chip it). Does anyone have suggestions on how to lift those glass side panels away? I was thinking of maybe getting a small suction cup or something like that.
Mine just arrived this evening. Great look with the pair of little glasses. The included Aviary cocktail recipes will be great for holiday fancy drinks, I'm picking out some simple ones for a quick Wegman's trip this weekend. Possibly some kind of dragonfruit, habaneros and blood orange involved.
So my wife was digging through some old files to hunt down a financial document we needed today and she stumbled upon the Porthole "gift card" from last xmas. She's not one to pass up a good opportunity to remind me of it.
Wife: Hey look what I found!
Me: Ah yeah, I remember that. Oh! It will be here on Friday!
Wife: Yeah, right. I'm sure it will.
Me: No! Really! It will be here Friday.
I'm just really hoping that it will make it here undamaged. I'd cross my fingers if I believed in luck.

Hi, I pledged on the very last day - however I was under the impression that all the backers would have received shipments by now - can you please provide an update?
I pledged over a year ago for 2 black portholes and they still haven't arrived? Will they ever? I just saw the message about the white, but does that mean all the black ones that will be sent out have already been?
Is there a way to confirm the address you have for those of us who have not yet received our shipment?
The replacement screws are en route to Chicago, scheduled for delivery to us on Thursday 9/12. Our warehouse will need 5 days to reassemble the remaining Portholes and prepare them for shipment. I will post an update once we've inspected the screws and have a firm shipping schedule.
I haven't received an email with shipping info. Are there still Portholes being delivered?!?! Have I been missed?
The product is just beautiful but honestly it damn well should be after a year's wait. We don't want to just keep bashing anyone here, but its been a long time. I like some others bought as Xmas gifts, then bday, even Mother/Fathers day passed. Personally I have never had to wait this long for anything I ordered, even on a waitlist. I got the 5 black portholes, but have not recieved word on the white limited edition. I would have thought I would have seen that one first since a smaller number were made. Any updates on the white ones?
Hey, I just wanted to state, thanks for the update, looking forward to receiving a porthole for me and one for my Dad. I'm really excited about using this for cocktails and other infusions.
Is there any update? This is getting to be ridiculous! I pledged over a year ago for 5 portholes. Still nothing. Every single update for the last year has been an apology with another delay. According to your last update they should have shipped by now, but instead we get more silence from you. At this point I just want the Portholes and to be done with all of this non-sense.
Ok, so here's my dilemma, I am leaving on October 1st to go over seas until next July. I'm going to assume the worst case scenario and say that my two port holes will not be in my hands when I leave the US. One of the port holes is for me and the other is a gift for my daughter in law. Will you be able to ship one of the port holes (mine) to me at my destination in the southern hemisphere at no extra cost to me?
Any update on the final shipment? My address has not changed since I filled out initial survey so I did not make any changes.

We're awaiting replacement parts mentioned in the update, they should arrive this week and we'll need 2-3 days to reassemble the Portholes, assemble the kits, and ship them out. Hi Martin, I did not fill out the address confirmation survey because my shipping information hadn't changed and the email said that my portholes would ship by early August (and I assumed would arrive by the end of August). However, I have received no further information or notice of shipping and I am moving across the country on September 1st. The address change survey no longer is active. Please let me know how to change the shipping address for my order so that they will arrive to my address. I backed Sept 4 for 5 portholes. Thank you, Erica

@Nicole: don't give up on your porthole yet! Several of us initially struggled with leaks; meticulously following the instructions may help.
There are also several other tips on the recently created Facebook page 'Porthole Tips and Recipes' which have helped others in the same boat. If it still leaks, may be a post or gasket issue, I am sure Martin would be happy to look into the problem.
With regards the volume, ? good for alcoholic cocktails for two?

I received a note to fill out the survey with my updated address on July 25 (and filled it out the same day). I have received nothing since then, including a UPS notification. I checked my SPAM folders as well. Can you please confirm that a shipment is en route, and please provide tracking details as well?
Received this week after a year of wait. Very nice but absolutely useless. The size is good for oil infusion but that is about it (13 oz). It leaks like crazy. Had to apply tremendous pressure just to tighten the screws.
the packaging is nice but to be frank I prefer a product that works without all the nice packaging. I feel like I paid for packaging and not proper design nor testing.

Received mine about a week ago—craftsmanship and the quality of the components greatly exceed expectations. However, for the life of me I cannot get this thing to not leak. I sincerely hope that some tips / how-tos are quickly forthcoming vis-à-vis an assembly procedure that seals everything up properly without the necessity for 2 people and/or 3 hands.

@Rebecca Web site pre-orders should ship before the end of the month, after the final black Kickstater shipment.
@Jason In the last update I mentioned that we've shipped rewards for pledges made by 8/28. As soon as we have the replacement screws, we will ship the rest of the Portholes. They should ship within two weeks.

I backed on 8/20 for 2 black portholes. I have not received them. Nor the "thank you" glasses promised. I have not received UPS notification of shipment (spam or otherwise), nor a request for address verification (ONLY if there was a change). I responded to your email asking if they were 2012 holiday gifts (they were). It's almost a year past when I originally thought I would receive them. Still patiently waiting... losing patience. I was an 8/24'er and I did receive my Porthole today. Very nicely boxed, and with an inspection, in good shape. I haven't taken it apart and tried to reseal it yet, but will be doing that soon.
As I noted in the past, I hope to see more Crucial Detail designs, and hopefully, they'll review their supply/manufacturing chain and come up with a better set of processes.
The Porthole looks great and with some entertainment upcoming, I can't wait to show it off.
