About this project

About the Connecticut Critics Circle Awards

For the past 26 years, the Connecticut Critics Circle (CCC) Awards have honored outstanding actors, directors, designers, choreographers and others who help make Connecticut theater so special.

The free annual event, open to the public, is held every June, and pays tribute to those who create the extraordinary shows produced and presented on the professional stages across the state. The CCC also honors those who have spent a lifetime of achievement with the presentation of the Tom Killen Award.

Last June nearly 400 theater fans turned out to celebrate the past season, co-hosted by Hartford Stage and Hartford’s TheaterWorks. Previous events were hosted by the Yale Repertory Theater, Westport Country Playhouse and Long Wharf Theater.

Why Do We Need Your Help?

Where would the Tonys® be without the sponsors? The Obies? The Emmy?

Awards shows are expensive to produce. Some of the outlay includes the printing of programs, the actual awards, the reception, the visuals, and the behind-the-scene costs.

Connecticut theaters have been very generous in helping us stage the Connecticut Critics Circle Awards Program each year. They support the event because it celebrates the excellence of Connecticut theaters.

BUT…as the awards program keeps growing, more funds are needed to sustain its excellence.  For instance, last year we gave out an actual award for recipients rather than just handing out a certificate; we would like to provide transportation assistance for NYC based performers; and we would like to continue to make the program available to the public and Connecticut theater enthusiasts.  We would also like to videotape the proceedings and have professional photographs taken to later post on our website.

Your help will make the Connecticut Critics Circle Awards program better, larger, and more accessible as we recognize the best of theater in the state.

About the Connecticut Critics Circle

The Connecticut Critics Circle (CCC), founded in 1990, is a statewide organization of reviewers, feature writers, columnists and broadcasters.  Members of the CCC cover professional theater for print, broadcast and electronic media reaching millions throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York.  As the New York City media, notably The New York Times, has abandoned their coverage of Connecticut theater the CCC has looked to fill this void.

Since 1990, the CCC has presented the Connecticut Critics Circle Awards honoring the best of professional Connecticut theater, its artists and productions.  The group maintains a website and periodically hosts special programs about Connecticut theater.  For further information about the group, its members, current and archived reviews and more, visit the CCC website at: www.ctcritics.org
