Hello... thanks for checking out my project...
So here's some simple inspiration for a fun Kickstarter project. I happen to have some strong Neodymium cube magnets at work that I use on my whiteboard. Everyone else in the office uses the company issued small, wimpy plastic push pin style magnets... until they see my magnets and 'borrow' them.
Fun Fact # 1: People love magnets...
While the plain neodymium cube magnets are strong, they have 3 big problems:
1) They are slick making them hard to grasp... so they are hard to remove.
2) Being purely magnets, they attact from all directions, and are a bit tricky when they get close to each other as they want to 'snap together'.
3) They are somewhat brittle and often chip and crack when they snap to the surface or to each other.
So, the idea here is to make some purpose built, over the top magnet assemblies.... these magnets are strong and don't look like silly cheap plastic game pieces.
Fun Fact # 2: Magnets are the closest thing to magic you will ever find...
The design starts with a substantial Neodimium Iron Boron disc magnet... These 'rare earth' magnets are the strongest type of magnets around... and I'm using the N52 grade, the highest strength grade available. Next the magnet is coupled to an engineered steel 'cup' which acts to direct the magnetic flux in a way which further increases the magnetic pull strength. The cup also 'shields' the magnetic force of all of the surfaces except the mounting surface, making them much safer to handle than an unshielded magnet. The magnet/cup assembly screws to a custom CNC machined aluminum housing part which is anodized for durability and color. Lastly, a rubber ring is added to further enhance the grip.
Fun Fact # 3: A Strong Like Bull magnet has a rated direct contact pull strength of over 25 lbs!
The aluminum pull part is hand stamped with the nifty Strong Like Bull logo. Hand stamps give each part a unique, old-school, hand crafted look.
Fun Fact #4: Here's the hand (mine) and custom stamp that will be involved in the marking process. Turns out, marking metal is fun... makes you feel like 'ye olde blacksmith'...
The aluminum parts are anodize finished in several sharp looking colors: silver, black, red, blue, gunmetal grey and a special Kickstarter electric green.
Fun Fact #5: If you are worried about these being 'permanently borrowed' by your colleagues... maybe go for the electric green... they are easy to spot...
How to help...
Help make the project a reality. With enough backing, there will be sufficient volume to move forward with production quantities to get the pricing to a reasonable level. Now 'reasonable' is always subjective... but here are a few things to keep in mind... 1- High Grade Neodymium magnets are expensive. 2- Even if we do reach funding, our quantities are still quite low in the grand scheme of manufacturing things... we are not spreading the fixed costs over tens or hundreds of thousands of parts. 3- I use US manufacture wherever possible 4- Own something unique, there's nothing like these anywhere!

Risks and challenges
Strong Like Bull magnet assemblies are a straightforward design, so the risk mainly turns to execution of the project per plan. I have prototyped the design and I have suppliers selected for the magnet assembly, the o-rings, the custom machined aluminum part, and the anodize finish operation. I have purchased the stamp and have experimented with fixturing to achieve a nicely centered logo.
I have good experience with the the machining and finishing of custom aluminum parts through my first successful Kickstarter project, Spoke Pencils. I also gained valuable experience on the back end with fulfillment/shipping that will help keep things on track.
