4: Our Tshirts keep their shape and feel better with every wash. Pima cotton is incredibly soft, durable and best of all, it requires no fussy washing techniques - it’s machine washable.
5: Made in Sydney. We’re keeping it local to maintain the highest quality
With 15 years of fashion industry experience behind us, specialising in tailoring and couture, we decided it was time for a change.
Having kids has made us feel a bit organic about life and – as usually follows – our work. But when it comes to organic fashion, while we’ve come across many examples, we’ve yet to see ones we like. Of course, it’s a worthy endeavour and a lot of love goes into it – we champion the cause. But why, we wonder, does organic clothing have to look so... well, organic? We want to make an organic garment that is stylish, with a tailored cut that flatters the body. A timeless piece that is destined to become a wardrobe staple.
That’s what got us excited. It’s been our business to know all about great fabrics and we understand the importance of design and quality in high-end fashion. We want to bring that design expertise to clothing with broader appeal, starting with a piece that is simple and essential to everyone – the Tshirt.
So PERSON was born. We’re about well-designed, responsibly-made clothing that can be worn everyday and everywhere. The PERSON Tshirt looks cool, feels amazing on and fits just right. It says something about you – that you care about design and how things are made – in a subtle, effortless way.
Made with premium grade organic Pima cotton, the PERSON Tshirt is fine and soft, yet durable and easy to wash. And since it’s organic, no harmful chemicals were used in the process from seed to garment.
At PERSON we know all about fit. Our Tshirts are designed to show off your good bits and sit comfortably on the body. Cut long for style and versatility, they have a comfortable, gently slouched look. The men’s and women’s styles all have a signature forward-shoulder seam, and we’ve used a (Kickstarter limited-edition) vintage ’40s fabric for the back neck binding.
All Tshirts will be available in XSmall, Small, Medium, Large and XLarge sizes. The cuts are true to size. When the campaign is over, you will be given a size range with measurements so you can choose the right size for you.
For our Kickstarter backers, we've created 4 basic styles for men and 6 styles for women in a range of colours.
Womens colours available in Eco-White, Indigo, Sorbet Pink and Black.
Mens colours available in Eco-White, Indigo, Blue Stone and Black.
Delivered to you at wholesale
Most designer Tshirts retail between $80 and $200. Our organic Tshirts would typically sell just upwards of $100. But we don’t want to sell retail; we want to cut out the middleman and sell directly to you at wholesale prices, starting at $55. We think stylish and well designed, organic clothing shouldn't be expensive. We believe in fair pricing for fair manufacturing.
This means you’ll be getting a quality high end product for half of what it really should be: $55 for short sleeve tees and $70 for long sleeve tees.
Ok, sounds good. What’s next?
With our range designed and ready to go, we need to raise our funding goal of $25K to move forward with production. If we reach this target, it will enable us to offer our Tshirts at wholesale prices.
If we raise more than our goal, we’ll be able to expand our design and colour range for our next offering. Since we aim for PERSON to be a brand you can rely on for stylish, organic basics, we plan to expand our range in future collections.
If you like the sound of getting your hands on a high-quality, fashionable organic Tshirt at wholesale, click "Back this Project" on the right, or click directly on any of the rewards we offer.
Pledge $10 you'll receive our deepest gratitude on Facebook and receive a set of 4 illustrated PERSON postcards. These feature some cool persons - like these two below - who we know would rock our tees, if only they could!
Pledge $30 and you'll be dozing off on a pair of super soft organic Pima cotton pillowcases (child not included).
Pledge $55 and above and you'll be enjoying either a short or long sleeve organic Pima cotton Tshirt in the style and colour of your choice.
Your pledge will enable us to buy the fabric and have it made into your Tshirt. Once we’ve reached our funding goal, we’ll send you a survey to complete, in which you’ll be asked for your Tshirt style, size, colour and other important stuff.
Why organic and what’s Pima cotton?
We're conscious of the environment and want to produce our garments in responsible ways. Conventional cotton is one of the most contaminating crops on the planet, using 25% of all insecticides in the world and up to 10% of all pesticides. These chemicals endanger the farmers’ lives on a daily basis as they contain trace toxins that are never eliminated.
Organic cotton prohibits the use of toxic chemicals and genetically modified seeds. It sustains healthy soil, and proper irrigation methods that don’t contaminate water supplies. It promotes a good quality of life for all involved.
Our supplier is one of the pioneers of organic cotton in the world, working with small-scale farmers who own the land they farm. These farmers support their own families and the communities in which they live. We wanted to use only cotton that is certified under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) as this assures us that the production process is clean and processed using environmentally-conscious methods.
The 100% Pima cotton we use is of the highest grade. It is known for its long, silky fibres which produce a fabric that is not only fine and very soft, it is strong and durable. It feels fantastic to wear and we know you'll love it.
Why manufacture in Sydney?
We all know that many clothing manufacturers provide poor working conditions and unfair wages to their workers. While not every factory falls in this category, many are not transparent about the context their garments are made in. Unless you’re at the factory to see for yourself, you can never be sure what the conditions are like. However, when things are cheap, it means that someone somewhere is paying for it.
Our goal is to produce locally in Sydney, which not only provides jobs and security in a shrinking manufacturing economy, it also puts the production on our doorstep. By making garments here, we can keep a close eye on all the stages so we can deliver the high standards and quality we seek. No corners will be cut (no pun intended)!
We want to be in this for the long haul, creating new collections based on your feedback. If we can see that one style or colour proves more popular than another, it’s is a valuable guide to work with and we can deliver a refined Tshirt by demand. We aim to eliminate waste by only producing styles and colours that people want – it's a more sustainable way of working and produces less dead stock.
We will also be packaging our Tshirts in cellophane because its biodegradable and our swing tags are printed on recycled card.
Your contribution and input is vital for our future production so we’d love to hear from you.
What can you do to help?

Risks and challenges
This is not the first time we’ve done larger-scale production. We know the ropes and what to look out for. We know our supplier and our manufacturer and how they operate.
We also know that having experience doesn’t eliminate the risks. It just makes us better at dealing with them.
We've tried to be very realistic with our timeframe, but naturally, as with any start-up, there may be delays in the process. We will communicate with our backers throughout the campaign about anything that might arise. We will be working hard to ensure that you have your garment shipped to you as fast as possible.
At PERSON we're looking forward to creating and delivering to you a stylish, high-quality organic T-shirt for a good price.
