About this project
Q Revolt - Portrait book about women who love women
Q Revolt is a portrait book about women who love women, aiming to break the stereotype so alive in our society. From the butch to the lipstick, and everything in between, this book is about celebrating the whole spectrum and the diversity of women who have in common their sexual orientation.
Q Revolt was born back in 2013 when traveling with a friend through Croatia and Bosnia and we felt so aware how different our lives would be if we’d be living there instead of Berlin.
Somewhere in Sarajevo I saw “Q REVOLT” in red written on a wall. I had no idea what it meant but to me it was the start of a whole journey. I wanted to show something to the world and hopefully be able to change opinions about women like me and my friend.
After this trip I started getting in contact with women from the LGBT community who were interested in being part of the project, shot some faces and listened to their experiences.
Coming from a place like Portugal this felt like a really important thing for me to do. I was lucky enough to be born and raised in a relatively open minded family and group of friends, but there were still so many conservative and retrograde minds. In a country where catholic influence is still strong and visible, it was scary for me to face that after living in Berlin and being able to experience a sexual and identity freedom.
A lot happened in my life since 2013. I met the most amazing woman who last year became my wife, I got a dog, I changed jobs, I traveled to different places for work. Q Revolt was always on my mind, but I was not confident enough to convince others to be confident.
3 years later and after organising a wedding between 2 women in Portugal, I have overcome my own personal struggles, I learnt and I grew, by exposing myself and letting people see more of who I am.
I feel now confident to continue and finish Q Revolt and I need your help to make this happen!
My goal is to publish the Q Revolt book sharing the faces of 100 women. All portraits are shot at a location choice from each person and across Europe (mainly Berlin but every request will be considered). That's what the money you'll pledge will be used for: all the photos shot in film and the book print and publishing itself.
I plan to take all the photographs till end of July and to publish the book together with an exhibition till December 2017.
The deadline I chose to my Kickstarter is April 25th, same day as we celebrate Freedom Day in Portugal. Freedom of speech, freedom to be who you want to be.
Every share and every pledge counts, please help me and make this possible!

Risks and challenges
The biggest conflict for me till I was able to put to put this project to public was to overcome my own personal struggle and expose myself and my sexuality.
Once the pledge is achieved, my challenge is to stay focus and to continue and conclude this project aside from my full time job.
- Find women who want to be part of the project and show their faces;
- Take all photographs;
- Finish the book layout;
- Print the book within the budget;
- Plan the book launch / exhibition in Berlin
- Find distribution partners
