I'm raising money to take the Music Post to the next level. I like to think I've done some good work with the show so far, but in order to make it sustainable, it needs an upgrade. I'll be using the funds to
1. Reaching and building an audience: I've built an enthusiastic following of listeners, but I need more! I've gotten feedback from across the globe from people who enjoy the show. With an advertising budget, I can reach more people like them and build a sustainable following.
2. Upgrade equipment and software. If I'm going to have more listeners, the show needs to be more professional in its production. A lot of listeners have written in to say they love the content, but that the audio quality isn't up to standard, and I agree. In addition, the free software I use to mix the episodes is (as you might expect from free software) not the best. I'll use the funds to buy recording equipment and software to make the audio quality and recording process worthy of the time and effort that goes into planning and recording the episodes.
With funding in hand, I'll be producing a series of new episodes over the summer to be released weekly in the fall. The episodes will include reflections on classic pieces, as well as explorations of the new and unfamiliar (as with past episodes), but will concentrate on a few select topics, to be explored in depth.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge with this project will be producing top-quality content. With funding in hand, it won't be difficult to purchase the relevant equipment set the budget for advertising, as planned.
The difficult part will be carving out the time to plan, practice, record and edit the episodes, and doing so in the best manner possible. Summer is always a busy time, but my teaching schedule lightens up and I'm ready to dive into this project. As for the quality, you can look at my past results (and other endeavors) and judge the risk for yourself!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
