About this project

In the mood for a good scare? Helen most certainly is not.

It’s just another night babysitting little Lucas. Sure, Helen has to convince Lucas the boogeyman isn’t hiding in his closet before he drifts off to sleep, but what kid doesn’t get the bedtime jitters courtesy of urban legends? Too bad for Helen, and Lucas for that matter, the story of the man who snatches up little children is as real as ever. With Helen’s strapping boyfriend Tom by their side, Lucas and Helen must find a way to keep clear of the clutches of the maniacal and murderous Robert Bowery.

Interested in discovering what lies ahead for Helen? We need your help! Currently deep in pre-production, the Columbia University Film MFA film “Child Eater,” is on the hunt for fearless souls willing to forfeit a buck or two for the sake of pure terror. With hopes of screening at the Columbia University Film Festival this May, we’re looking for some supportive backers to help propel us through production this winter so the film can be ready for your viewing pleasure this spring.

Take a look at the exclusive “Child Eater” goodies we have to offer, say “Robert Bowery” three times and … mind your children.

Director’s Statement

For as long as I can remember, I've been a devout horror movie fanatic. There's nothing quite like watching a well made horror film - one that taps into your deepest fears, creeps up on you unexpectedly and then makes you jump and scream with exhilaration.

Child Eater was born out of a longing to make a film that does exactly those things: a straight-up horror film firing on all cylinders that would encapsulate all the elements I love about the genre: suspense, a sense of dread, creepiness, well placed humor and just enough gore to keep the bloodthirsty satisfied.

Ultimately, though, story is the key to any film's success and I wanted this one to really resonate with an audience. Taken literally, the story of Child Eater is about a babysitter terrorized by a madman, but it is also about the transition from childhood to adulthood, and the consequences of turning our backs to problems instead of facing our fears head on.

With your help, we can make it all come true. We've got a great script and have assembled some amazing talents to bring this horrific vision to life. If you like a good and cathartic fright - and lets be honest, who doesn't? – then please support this project and let us scare your socks off!

Where will your money go?

There are many pieces to the filmmaking puzzle and while most can be secured on a low budget, there still very much needs to be an appropriate budget.

Should you be so generous as to donate your hard earned money to “Child Eater,” you’ll be contributing to the filmmaking process in a number of capacities – helping us rent the necessary camera and lighting equipment, transporting the cast and crew to and from the set, helping us up the gore factor with the most gruesome of special effects and, most important of all, helping to feed our hardworking cast and crew.

Every penny counts and we are incredibly grateful to all of you who deem this project worthy of your support.
