So, here we are then, on the internet, begging for money. Which, frankly, is a huge step forward for us. We tried busking outside the local curry house, but to no avail, so it's Kickstarter or bust.
We are Not 2 Grand, a little corner of the internet dedicated to buying, owning and generally having fun with cheap old cars. But in doing so, we like to think we're unique, too.
There are plenty of sites out there talking about cheap cars, but what they seem to miss is the fact that cheap motoring is fun motoring. It's disposable, but in the best possible way. You buy a car, you have some fun with it, you wreck it, you do it all over again. No finance, no four-year commitment, you just drive and laugh.
And that's what we want to bring to your faces via the medium of video. Our site, Not 2 Grand, is doing well. You lot seem to like our words and the order in which we place them, but we can do more. This is 2018 after all.
We could go out and get you shaky phone footage, we could talk about a few cars, but that's not fun or engaging. As such, we want to push the limits a bit. We want to make films that you'll want to watch more than once. To do that, however, requires money.
Not 2 Grand is very much the passion project of one man. As such, your money will be going toward not only funding what we need to film (car, location, extra hands) it will also go toward the production. If we're doing this, we are doing it right. THAT is where the money is going. We want to deliver you a new series of car show that looks great. We're proud of Not 2 Grand, and while the subject matter may be cheap, it doesn't mean we have to present it in a cheap way.
But here's the thing, we're not here, cap in hand, because we want impressive production levels. We also want to push the boat out on what we do in the videos. We're not looking to start a generic review series based around old cars. We want to set challenges, push these cars to their very limits, show what fun cheap motoring can be. Think of it as a bit like Roadkill, but with a British accent and probably fewer cylinders. We promise you, we will bring you something that's fun, something that you WANT to watch.
The goal is to start producing one video a month, episode length (so 20 to 30 minutes) and be as near to broadcast quality as possible. We want you to enjoy what you're watching, not be put off by poor quality. We have the experience, we have the team in place, we have at least five episodes planned. All we need is a bit of a financial kick to get things going.
Contribute to this, and we promise if you love cars and love a bit of automotive fun and adventure, you'll be glad you did.
Risks and challenges
There are no inherent risks. This is something we have wanted to do for a long, long time. The only risk to us is this Kickstart failing. Other than that, we know who, what and strangely, where we need. We just don't have the funds to make it happen. But that is hopefully where you kick in.
It will be a challenge to make it happen in the sense that all filming projects are, but that doesn't mean we won't do it. We will have to choreograph the whole project, and that may take time to balance and get right, but we will do it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
