AMAZING NEWS last night - we hit our £25K target - and kept going!
And with 24 hours to go - we are SO stoked, and it is ALL because of you guys who supported us and our weird project. Unreal, thank you..., so we are currently...

WE CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH - it means the world to us, so we are gonna try and find a way to repay you. Here comes...
OUR STRETCH GOAL...the ask - £30k!

So, we cut a scene we REALLY wanted to do because we didn't think we could afford to do it. It's not long - 30 secs of screen time.
We had already visualised and budgeted it, it's scary and weird as all hell (inspired in part by the famed 'Spider Walk' sequence cut from The Exorcist). The creation task involves the amazing Dan Martin of 13 Finger FX and his special magic to make what we called 'The Crawler'. And here he is, in all his glory....

'The Crawler' is half DC crew member, half-demon. Story wise, it's an important beat because it shows the evil the inter-dimensional beasts can do as they try to take over one of the Deep Clean crew member's bodies (shudder...).
If you can help us do this, we promise to deliver the BEST version of the film possible, so please have a look and share if you can...16 hours to go!!
Thank you to everyone, this really means SO MUCH to us...

DEEP CLEAN is a supernatural horror short film - with a comic edge.
"Donate to the Kickstarter - it'll be well worth it.” VICE "Sounds like a fantastic UK horror short” Screen Anarchy "Really looking forward to seeing a Krent Able monster come to life" Britflicks
What if the council road crews you see every day causing traffic jams...
were not what you thought?
16 year old Alex is a troubled kid, excluded from school for fighting and for his weird drawings, evidence to some of a disturbed mind.
To keep him out of juvenile detention, he is forced into doing a boring work placement with his loser Uncle Brian who works for the council.
What he doesn’t know is that Deep Clean is a secret council unit whose job is...blocking up demon portals.
Imagine a horror film, but set in a world created by Mike Leigh or Ken Loach.

Deep Clean is a supernatural comedy horror, in the vein of films like Trollhunter, Shaun of the Dead and Attack the Block. Like those films, it embraces a believable naturalistic set up, which is then peeled back to reveal a whole new world you never knew existed, hiding just beneath the surface.
Introducing the Deep Clean team

Director Matt Harlock's first feature film, American the Bill Hicks Story, premiered at the London & SXSW Film Festivals, won several Best Doc awards (Dallas, Biografilm Bologna, Downt and was the 2nd highest grossing documentary released in UK cinemas that year. It has an IMDb rating of 8.2, and was in Rotten Tomatoes best Films of 2011. It is currently 6th on the All Time iTunes Bestsellers Chart.
His fiction short films (Toll, Lollipop, The Clouds) have been shown on Channel 4, Film4, HBO and Sky, and featured at festivals worldwide.
But who is this Krent Able?

Krent Able is a writer, graphic artist and visual storyteller. His reputation in the horror and comics community is well established, having worked for Stool Pigeon, Vice, NME and the Guardian Guide. His work was featured in the Comics Unmasked Exhibition at the British Library last year. Paul Gravett, the don of the UK comics scene (Comica Festival, The Barbican), describes his work as "a revelation."

He is considered one of the brightest talents of the current UK graphics scene – his work is variously described as ‘beautifully drawn and darkly disturbing, really quite brilliant’ (Dangerous Minds), ‘disturbingly funny’ (Forbidden Planet) and ‘brilliantly vicious’ (Pitchfork). His scathing, hilarious yet affectionate Stool Pigeon takedowns of Nick Cave, Kanye West and Morrissey, among others, proved wildly popular, leading to work for The NME, Guardian Guide and Vice (“violent, sexual, obscene…great!”) A horror aficionado who relishes the darker side, it was only a matter of time before his natural storytelling and pitch-black humour led him towards the medium of film.

The Deep Clean story
We decided that we wanted to create a truly original horror, set in a unique world. Many horror films telegraph the kind of world they are in from the start - Deep Clean slowly peels back a naturalistic set up to reveal just what lies beneath our everyday world.

Alex is a troubled, angry kid - kicked out of school for fighting, and for his weird drawings, evidence to some of his disturbed mind. Now he can't believe that to avoid juvenile detention, he has to spend time with his loser uncle on a work placement with the council.
The Deep Clean crew are a bunch of bickering slobs who argue about football and complain about overtime - familiar from films like Ken Loach's Riff Raff or Mike Leigh's Life is Sweet. The only difference is - they battle inter-dimensional entities...

As the day goes on, Alex senses something’s up but isn’t sure what - until he comes face to face with something he thought only existed in his darkest imagination.

LET'S MEET THE TEAM...
To pull off an idea like this, you need an amazing team and we are thrilled to be working with two of the best FX outfits in the business.
Special effects by Dan Martin

Dan Martin of 13 Finger FX is perhaps best known for his work with Ben Wheatley on Sightseers, Field in England, High Rise and Free Fire. He is going to create the practical demon monster that Krent has designed.

We have carefully planned, storyboarded and budgeted all the special effects required for the film, and we are very excited to get to work with Dan to bring a monster from Krent's imagination squirming to horrible life!

That sounds great, but what about the VFX?
Visual effects by Territory Studio
We are also working with Territory Studio, who have created the jaw- dropping VFX for films like Ghost in the Shell, Prometheus, Guardians of The Galaxy, The Martian and the upcoming Bladerunner 2049. They are an amazing team working with the best Hollywood directors...and us.

I like music though. Who's doing the soundtrack?
Soundtrack by Kite Base & I Speak Machine
Music is of course a very important part of creating mood in film, and we are more than stoked that we are working with two bands who have got serious chops. Kite Base have collaborated with Krent before - Kendra Frost and Ayse Hassan make seriously inventive walls of sound.

We're also excited to be collaborating with I Speak Machine - Tara Busch and filmmaker Maf Lewis - make brooding soundtracks and horror/sci-fi films.

Exec Producer Mike Chapman
Mike has served on the judging panel for the short animation award for BAFTA, and spoken on panels for Raindance, Film Wales and the BFI.
Producer Roxanne Holman
Roxanne has a wealth of experience in short-form content production and was selected for the Edinburgh International Film Festival Talent Lab 2013. She is the co-founder of Joker's Pack with Mark J. Blackman, and has produced hundreds of films since the company's incorporation in December 2012, including their current supernatural festival hit NEON.

The filmmaker's previous film
The concept for Deep Clean came about when Matt & Steve started brainstorming ideas after their last short film together. Festival hit film Ink, Cocks & Rock’n’Roll starred Krent and was about artistic alter egos, a hybrid documentary that turns into a horror film.

“A visceral, tangible immersive gore. Outrageous fun."
Corin Hardy (The Hallow, The Nun)
"Great piece of work - really opened a hidden can of cultural worms to dip my head into.” Marc Munden (Utopia/National Treasure)

It’s played festivals round the world (LSFF, LOCO, Celluloid Screams, Dublin International, SFIndie Fest, Britshorts Berlin, Fastnet). We are thrilled that it will premiere online June 20th on VICE.com. Watch the trailer below.
So why are we on Kickstarter?
We are fully committed to producing a dark, weird, funny, boundary pushing film, and whilst we are pulling favours with crew and post, we have a vision that requires certain elements that we just cant get for free. We are looking to raise £25K - and we hope that the Kickstarter community will be into seeing this crazy story world brought to life as much as we are.
Deep Clean is also part of a larger story that we want to tell, and we seriously hope that you might want to join us on this journey.

Risks and challenges
We understand that this is not as easy to make as a straightforward relationship drama, but who the hell wants to make one of those?
We're making a monster, it's gonna be harder, but if it hits a few bumps, we hope you'll be with us as we overcome them. We are an experienced team and have the track record to pull this off, so...let's do this.
