Thank you for all the support
Our campaign has ended on 07/1/15 at 10:00am. We would like to give a shout out to all of our amazing backers and say thank you for all the support. You made My Magical Adventure happen and helped to bring more diversity to children’s books.
The fact that our campaign is over does not mean that you can’t get a book anymore. If you want to stay in touch with Crayon Crunch or get a personalized children’s book,
All the best,
Team Crayon Crunch
What happens if you mix software engineering with traditional children’s book printing? You get the first-ever printed personalized book, in which the lead character looks like the child reading it.
My Magical Adventure is a printed personalized children’s book, whose lead character can be customized to look like any child, including all ethnicities and special needs.
We want to celebrate diversity and created a first-of-its-kind children's book. All our books are printed uniquely and will be as diverse as the little ones reading them.
These are the features that you will be able to personalize:
Many parents have already created the lead character for their books. Here are just a few examples of what the lead character can look like, the combinations are almost endless.
When Friederike, one of our co-founders, visited her nephew, she brought him a personalized children’s book. Friederike could only personalize the lead character's name. Everyone loved it, but while reading the book, she could only point at his name and never say "Look! That's you in the book!" Her nephew just looked very different than the lead character. She researched alternatives and was surprised that there was not much choice.
What started as the idea to create a book for her nephew, quickly grew into the mission to create a book for every child.
After the Kickstarter is over, we will send you a link where you can customize the lead character to look like your child.
Here are the lead character's features you can customize:
- Hairstyle and hair color
- Facial features
- Eye color
- Skin tone
- Add any special needs (e.g. wheelchair, glasses, pacemaker, prosthetics, ...)
The combination options are nearly endless. The two animated images only show a few examples of different customization options for hairstyles and colors as well as clothing.
The character design will be similar to how a character in a video game is customized. After choosing the different characteristics, we show you what the child will look like and request you to approve the final design. Additionally, part of the customization process is a personalized letter. We will pre-write part of the letter, but you are welcome and encouraged to write a personal message. The child’s name and the keyhole of the box will be personalized as well. The keyhole will be in the shape of the first letter of the child’s name.

Our Creative Development Book:
The story is about your child, who finds a mysterious box in the attic. This box has a keyhole in the shape of the first letter of your child’s name, but the key is nowhere to be found. While searching the key, he or she finds an interesting looking hat, puts it on and journeys into an imaginary world.
On his or her adventure, your child meets curious characters that all project different personalities onto her, due to the hat. At the end of the story, your child finds the magical key tree that bares a key just for him or her.
In the story, your child will learn about the value of helping others, the importance of believing in yourself and the power of imagination. When your child opens the box, he/she will find a personalized letter written by you.

We need your help to make this book a reality. Our Kickstarter campaign allows us to bring this book into the hands of many children around the world. While all the artwork and the story are done, we need a certain amount of orders to be able to go into production. We also need help to get all the supplies needed to print and ship the books. With your help, we can start printing customized books and allow every child, no matter what ethnicity or disability, to go on an adventure.
You can order the book as either softcover or hardcover (limited edition). The book is 11x8.5 inches and has 32 pages. We are working with one of the biggest printers on the West Coast and we need to reach our goal of $10,000 to go into production.
Details of the budget

- Hardcover printing
- Editor for wording and sentence structure and flow

Risks and challenges
We spent months learning about publishing and printing, but this book is a true first-of-its-kind. So far we have test-printed various copies of the book and are fortunate to have an amazing team supporting us.
We have partnered with one of the biggest printers on the west coast to print the book. They are experts in print-on-demand and are working with some big name personalization companies. Even though we have test-printed various books with them, we might have to make adjustments to our software if we submit large volumes of personalized books. We are doing our best to ensure that the correct illustrations end up in the correct book, but at large volumes there can always be printing errors. This could potentially cause minor delays.
We will keep you updated about the process and we are determined to make sure everything works out as plannedLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
