Did you know that nearly 80% of Internet connection problems can be FIXED by simply rebooting your devices properly?
80 percent! That's why the tech support guys at the ISPs tell you to start by unplugging your cable modem when your Internet goes down. But let’s face it: rebooting can be a drag. You need to do it in the right order — power everything off first, then wait, then power on the modem, then wait, then power on the router…
…and what if your modem/router setup is not at your desk? What if it's across the room? What if it's on a downstairs in the basement or upstairs in the attic?
We've experienced this problem… a lot. And that’s what got us thinking that there had to be a better way!
Introducing The Amazing Jellybean — a smart power switch that reboots your connected devices in the correct order to solve connection problems.
How It Works
Let’s review the ideal way to reset your Internet connection.
A good technician will tell you to start from the wall and move towards your computer. In other words, you should begin by unplugging your modem first, and you should leave it off for at least a minute. (Why a minute? Well technically, we’ve heard it has to do with allowing the electricity to dissipate from the capacitors. Also, various ISPs have various times that they take to release IP addresses. This is boring stuff. Let’s move on.)
Next you would power down your router, and leave it off for at least a minute as well. Then you’d want to restart both of these devices (rebooting your computer is optional), but ideally you’d want the modem to boot up first, before you turn on the router.
Who has the patience to do it that way? The Amazing Jellybean does.
Setup is incredibly easy: you just plug your modem and router into the Jellybean and plug it into the wall. The next time you have a connection problem, you simply press the button on the Jellybean. It will power your devices down, then restart them in the right order with the proper interval in between to allow a perfect reset. It’s that easy!
Here it is, explained via animation:
Here is a demo of the working prototype.
The Amazing Jellybean is one-button convenient. But what if your modem/router/Jellybean are tucked away in a spot that is either hard to get to or you don’t feel like getting up? The Jellybean is equipped with Bluetooth, so you can also reset everything if you have a iPhone or Android smartphone — you just use our one-touch app!
The Amazing Jellybean is great for people who love convenience. It’s really fantastic for family members and friends who are not tech-savvy folks who don’t want complicated solutions to common problems. They want to push a button, and make everything ok again. That’s what the Amazing Jellybean does. It can even be used to reset devices such as Tivo boxes — any connected device that can benefit from the occasional hard reset.
Why We Need Your Help
Right now, we have a working prototype of the Amazing Jellybean, but we have to admit something: it’s not very pretty. It’s a working prototype. We have our patent pending and our manufacturing lined up, ready to produce our first run of the Jellybean in the beautiful form that we have designed as seen above. Your funding will go directly to the production of this first manufacturing round, and allow us to get working models into the hands of real customers who can provide invaluable feedback and word-of-mouth about our product. Your funding will also allow completion of the iOS and Android apps to control the Jellybean remotely via Bluetooth.
We are offering various levels of rewards in appreciation of your support. Thanks for reading our story.
Risks and challenges
Design: As mentioned, the Jellybean already has begun life as a working prototype, albeit not in its final, intended form. We don’t anticipate any major aesthetic or functional changes to the design, but as is common in creating items of this sort, some small details may change. We will always stay true to the purpose and intent of the Jellybean’s functionality.
Manufacturing: We are working with an established manufacturer who has a proven track record. Our supplier has confirmed that we can meet our estimated shipping times for the Jellybean if we are funded. Our prototype has been accredited by NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibration).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Yes the Amazing Jellybean will work with 110v and 220v standards however the outlet shape will be the one standardized in the United States.
No. At this time we only offer the two outlet version.
Why not a WiFi chip, and then create a way to access through the firewall (securely) so that I can reboot the device off site when the internet is down?
The current model of the Amazing Jellybean was designed to have only Bluetooth connectivity for local rebooting and will have a 10 to 20 meter range, depending on interior wall construction material.
Flat rate to Canada from Texas is between $20 & $40 depending on the final dimensions of the product and the box + packaging.
