Stretch Goal: Tree of Time
Help us reach $4,100 to bring to life the Tree of Time; we need to lay down our roots to create a solid foundation for the show. Imagine a massive oak-like tree with vintage time pieces dripping from the branches. This set piece is pivotal to your journey, and you'll understand why when you enter the labyrinth.
$3,600 Campaign Goal Achieved!
Thank you to our amazing backers for helping us reach our campaign goal of $3,600 with time left to spare!
What is Immersive Dance Theatre?
If you don't know much about immersive theatre, we're here to tell you what it's all about! Immersive theatre is unlike traditional performances with an audience that sits in stationary seats and observes the show from afar. Instead, each audience member walks through the performance space and interacts with the characters, and the scenes, in a way unique only to Sonder. Don't worry, you will be guided by one of our quirky characters throughout the show and will never be left to find your way alone.
What is Sonder?
Sonder transports you into an ethereal labyrinth that welcomes you into the life of a young artist who is standing at the crossroads of her youth. Sonder, Colorado's newest immersive dance theatre experience, invites you to engage with performers and witness captivating choreography-- all performed by professional artists under the age of eighteen.

Sonder, a word coined by John Koenig and The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, is defined as "The realization that each passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own-- populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness."
When you enter the labyrinth, this concept becomes a reality as the stranger standing next to you becomes a friend from the playground, the boy you see in the park asks you to help set up for his date, and a kind -hearted artist welcomes you into her creative space. Our world is yours to discover-- to see, smell, touch and even taste.
You, and twenty-three other audience members at each intimate performance, are invited to break through boundaries and drive your own experience, as our story welcomes both youth who are struggling through their own coming of age story, as well as more mature audience members who are revisiting the moment when they became who they are.

Why we need your support!
With your contribution, our artistic team will have the funds to create the intricacies necessary to bring your Sonder journey to life. The $3,600 we are requesting will allow us to rent the warehouse space that we need for the show, which will take place in July of 2017. This space will transform into a world for you to enter; equipped with an elaborate path created from lush hedge, a vast white room where the walls are yours to paint, a massive oak tree dripping with vintage clocks, and more! This project is only made possible by you, thank you for your contribution to Sonder.
Risks and challenges
We are embarking on an art form that is in its very early stages of development. There are not many models of successful immersive dance theatre work, and while this is one of the most exciting elements of this journey, the highly experimental nature of the art can also be a challenge.
That being said, the production team and performers that will bring you Sonder are equipped to face the road ahead, and our team is much too invested in the work to let it fizzle. Over the past ten weeks, we have embarked on a "workshop" production period, to test the waters and understand the challenge we were up against, and we have created a condensed version of the show to develop Sonder. We have used these ten weeks to work with immersive theatre alumni's such as Amanda Berg Wilson, seek advice from local art advocates, and develop all of the content that will go into the final version of Sonder-- and all of this work has culminated into three preview performances taking place on December 3rd and 4th at Madelife in Boulder.
We have learned so much in creating this first version of Sonder, that we know we can go nowhere but up and onwards with the final show.
