All You Need to Make Mayan Honey is a collection of ten children’s books we co-created with the people from Katab, a Mayan community, with stories inspired by their lives, traditions, and culture.
These books are no ordinary books! Each of the books tells the story of a person living in a Mayan community so you can experience their culture and traditions through their own eyes.
Experience ten powerful and inspiring stories! Five stories feature female characters and five feature male characters. All of the characters are represented as animals that you can find in the Mayan rainforest, so you can also learn about the local wildlife.
Loqueleo, Santilla joins our journey of making books available to every child!
In addition, with each sale, Loqueleo will match one additional book for the library in Katab. So with every book set you buy, we can add 2 books for the library!
We are on a mission to make books available to every child. We thought the best way to do this was to build libraries in the communities that need them by selling children's books that are co-created with the people in those communities. We are starting with Katab, a Mayan community in southern Mexico.
We got together with the members of Katab to ask them what educational project they wanted to fund with the sales of the books. They were clear that they needed a community library. The library will give their children a safe and appropriate place to read, study, and do their homework. The community will be donating the land and labor for the library.
With each purchase, you can choose any book you want to put in the Mayan library. This way, you and your child can view the world through the eyes of the Mayan people with this book set, and the Mayan people will be able to view the world through your favorite book.
- Gender Equality. Our collection are of 10 books. 5 of them are about male leading characters and 5 about women leading characters.
- Building Empathy. Our books are inspired by true stories so readers can learn and identify with the people from Katab and their culture.
- Economic Empowerment. The people from Katab are co-creators of the book, and their royalties from book sales will fund local educational programs chosen by them. The first project identified as a need is the construction of a library.
- Responsibly Sourced. Our books are high quality and colorfully printed with soy based ink and FSC-certified recycled paper from responsible sources.
- Connecting Readers. With every purchase the customer can help us choose one for for the library. Our readers will view the world of the people from Katab through one of our books, and they will view the reader's world through their favorite book.
For us, quality is very important, but how we make our books is just as important. That is why our ten hardcover books are printed with soy ink on high-quality FSC-certified paper. All of the books are 6x6 inches, the perfect size for young readers.
Enrique and Phox used to work together at a design agency. They later founded AllWithBooks with Sean, an adjunct professor and sustainability expert. Yoa joined the team as a designer to help bring the stories to life. The people from Katab shared their stories and you are helping us make it a reality!
For every $20,000 we can print 1,000 book sets and build one library in a Mayan community. So far, there are 30 Mayan communities that have reached out to us asking for a library. We want to be the most impactful children's book EVER! Join us. Click the image to view the Mayan community ; )
Risks and challenges
We’ve been testing our books and model for more than a year, this is actually our fourth book. We’ve been testing with friends and family, and made improvements with their feedback. We feel confident with what we learn and with the book so far, that is why we want to open it to the Kickstarter community.
Our team has a lot of expertise in different areas, from designing and art, to impact, sustainability and business, but little experience in he publishing industry. That is why we have spent more than a year working and testing different types of books. Nevertheless, we are working with the advice of experts in children’s writing, psychology and publishing.
Despite all of this, we can’t prepare for events that would be out of our control. Our pledge to you is to keep you up to date and informed throughout the entire process, no matter what. And if you have any questions, you can write us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will happily assist you with everything you might need related with your book set.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
