Mongrel Kickstart - Round 2

Posted by Blake Whitworth & Stephan Messier (Creator)

We're extremely thankful for the support from all of our backers.  Unfortunately we kicked Mongrel off to a rough start, and we quickly plateaued.  Our experience with kickstarter has been invaluable, and we've learned where we need to take Mongrel.  Our new game plan is to re-kickstart Mongrel with a playable demo for PC/Mac/Linux, which will expose Mongrel to a larger player base for extended multiplayer beta testing.  We want to use the community to drive development toward a highly polished and well designed game, tailored to fit the desires of everyone involved.

We're planning on kickstarting again by the end of the summer, and we would love your support next time around.  You can keep up with our progress via www.mongrelios.com as well as through twitter (@mongrelios) and our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mongrel/439272602823769.  Again, we're very grateful for your support, and we hope to see you again soon!

New video, new tiers, new plan. Let's make Mongrel.

Posted by Blake Whitworth & Stephan Messier (Creator)

New video!

Hey everyone, we've spent the last 2 days re-shooting our video and deciding how to properly re-brand Mongrel. After shooting in a studio with proper equipment, we cut it together and realized yet again we did not get our point across. So late this afternoon we shot some footage at our campus with my phone that's straight to point. In our hastiness Stephan ended up looking like Nicolas Cage and Blake has some Giorgio Tsoukalos goin' on but we're excited to get this update out.

New plan!

We want your feedback and suggestions, so we're proposing an open beta system. If funded we'll be able to release a playable beta in a few months and get it to everyone pledging $10 and up. You'll also receive every update all the way to the final release - and of course the final release when it's ready. Developing this way will ensure Mongrel is everything it could be and we want everyone to be a part of that

New tiers!

Enthusiasts: If you're stoked for Mongrel and want to see your own creations come to life, we have tiers for that! You'll be able to work with us to make anything from a new mongrel race and special equipment to a new arena and its resident beast.

Developers: We're using the UnrealEngine's development kit (UDK) and if you're a developer or would like to begin – we're offering a limited tier that allows you access to our active source while developing. This will include raw source (meshes and animations) and the game's source code. Last and most importantly, thank you all so much for your support so far. This is just the beginning and we'll need a lot of exposure to make it happen. Help us spread the word and all together, let's make Mongrel.

Thank you!

Here's an early peek at the newest mongrel.

Mongrel has gone PC

Posted by Blake Whitworth & Stephan Messier (Creator)

After the first two days of extremely lackluster response to Mongrel, we had to take a step back and look at our project. The obvious offense was our target platform, iOS. We've received ample positive feedback about the concept and designs of Mongrel, but almost zero interest in it as a mobile game. While the past few months of development were centered on iOS production, the concept is not at all dependent on any specific platform.

Mongrel is still in its early stages of development and we're very confident we can design it as a PC game. We're still interested in the possibility of cross platform multiplayer, but for now we're switching gears. We're stoked about the visual fidelity we'll be able to provide as well as multitude of control schemes we can design for. Switching to PC also allows us to develop a higher quality multiplayer experience which is integral to Mongrel.

We also realize we didn't adequately communicate our passion to create Mongrel and start our own studio. This campaign is more than a game pre-sale, it is our opportunity to reach out to the community and create awesome games together. We want to make Mongrel as bad ass as possible and very much recognize that working with the PC community is the best way to make that happen.

The original video has been taken down, and will be replaced with a video that reflects these changes. Here's the original:

We're really interested in your feedback and would like to hear what you think. If you have any ideas about Mongrel on PC - please comment and let us know.

Thank you
