The aim in Brave the Elements is to accumulate the most victory points. Every player has their own set of locations which are each worth a number of points when captured by the other players.
Players gain victory points at various stages throughout the game and are rewarded for successfully defending their locations. There are many different strategies you can employ but, as the state of play changes, you will need to rapidly adapt those strategies in order to claim victory.
A game lasts a number of rounds, as determined by the number of players. Each round has 6 phases. Players take turns during each phase, before moving on to the next, so that everyone stays involved as play quickly passes from player to player.
Brave the Elements is quick to set up and, once the starting player is determined, you are ready to begin!
This structured sequence of play allows the game to run smoothly and makes it really easy for new players to get into with just a basic introduction.
Each round begins with a draw phase where players refill their hand to 6 disaster cards.
The disaster cards are multi-purpose so you need to decide when and how they are best employed. They can be used for actions or reactions, to conjure disasters, or to use as resources to protect your key locations.
The second phase sees the players constructing new locations, one by one, so that each player has 5 in front of them. Each location has its own special ability which influences your strategy as the game progresses.
Locations are key to victory in Brave the Elements, capturing other players’ locations nets you valuable victory points and the locations you control give you special bonuses, extra phase plays or resources.
The action phase allows each player, in turn, to use a disaster card for its action ability. There are many different actions to choose from whether it be drawing extra cards, gaining victory points, or attempting to capture a location.
Using up your cards too early may limit your play later in the round or worse, leave your locations defenceless to attack!
The next two phases are all about capturing those valuable locations by infiltrating them with your followers—to weaken its structure—and by conjuring up to 2 disasters.
Disaster cards can be played on their own or together, using multiple cards, to conjure even more powerful disasters.
To successfully conjure a disaster against a location, its strength value must be equal to or greater than the defence of the location. The lower the strength value of a disaster card, the harder it is for other players to defend against.
To defend against disasters, roll a number of custom defence dice. You can then choose to discard disaster cards and tokens to match the needs shown on the disaster. If you do, the disaster is prevented and your location is safe.
During the final phase of each round, players are awarded 0, 1 or 3 victory points depending how many locations they still have in front of them.
At the end of the game, players count up the victory points values of all locations they have captured and all tokens they have gained during the game. The player with the most points wins.

Why has this changed!? Based on the feedback we received, we would like to shift the focus of our Kickstarter campaign solely towards the published edition of Brave the Elements. However, we will still offer all add-ons as detailed prior although, if you have any questions, do feel free to send me a message.
We want to do our best to support games stores around the world so have put together an excellent offer for retailers during our campaign.
If you are a retailer, please see the retail guidelines on our website for details and contact us directly about your pledge.
We need your support to fund the initial 1500 copy (minimum) print run of Brave the Elements. If we just manage to meet our funding goal, this is what the £13,500 will be put towards:
We have already put a substantial investment into the design, development, artwork and playtesting so that we could be fully prepared for our Kickstarter launch.
We have calculated our costs precisely, factoring in the charges at each stage, to ensure that we can follow through and deliver all your rewards on time.
As well as backing our project, we would really appreciate it if you could help us spread the word. We have put in a lot of time to get Brave the Elements ready for publication and would love to see the game funded!
Every share on social media helps a long way towards meeting our goal so we have put together a few Avatars which you can use for Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites:
Risks and challenges
We have already brought our first game to market, Medieval Mastery, and have learnt many lessons along the way. We have now invested a lot of time, effort and money into preparing Brave the Elements for its Kickstarter release and are dedicated to bringing the game into production.
ART / DESIGN
Jordan Grimmer is the person behind all the fabulous art in Brave the Elements. He has produced some incredible illustrations so far and is set to complete the remaining pieces in good time for production.
We have chosen to use Panda GM in China, a professional manufacturing company with a proven track record for producing quality games. We have been in discussions with the company since November 2013 and have mapped out the entire production process to ensure the game is produced to the highest standard.
SHIPPING / FULFILMENT
We have researched extensively into the shipping/fulfilment of our games and have managed to put together an excellent logistical package with experienced, reputable companies.
From China, the games will be shipped overseas to Amazon fulfilment centres in the US, Canada and the UK for domestic fulfilment. EU shipments will also be fulfilled directly from the UK so there will no extra customs charges upon delivery. We have strived to offer our backers the best, most cost-effective shipping possible, wherever they are in the world.
Our games are not limited to Kickstarter and, once the games arrive in the US, a good supply of copies will be delivered to and warehoused by our distribution broker, Impressions, ready for retail distribution.
We have built up a good network of supporters—including designers, publishers and game players—and, with our experience, their help and your support, we are confident that we can overcome any problems that may arise.
Thank you for pledging your support!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
