What This Project Is About
Fairytale Games: The Battle Royale has grown from a survival tabletop card game, where fairytale/folklore heroes and villains are pitted against each other in a Hunger Games (or Battle Royale) style deathmatch, to now a universe of massive story arcs which can be found in each game. By requests from many backers of our previous campaign, we've created this one to expand on the storyline with detailed miniatures to reflect the beautiful illustrations from the games that can be used in the games. Each of the characters we've selected for injection-molded immortalization are integral to the storylines of our main game, Horror Edition, Steampunk Edition, Zombie Edition, and our Fairytale and Legends of Time Expansions. For tech specs on the miniatures, please scroll down to our FAQ waaaaayyyy down below!

Artistic Justice is proud to reveal that the company working with us to bring you top quality minis, is none other than Greenbrier Games! You may know them as the ones that brought us the awesome Zpocalypse series!
Another thing to note is that our sculpts are created also by an award-winning sculptor who created the 3D models for the hit video game BioShock as many of the top Minis for games many of you have already backed on Kickstarter! Also, be sure to check out their current Kickstarter Campaign, a dice game with a really unique gameplay concept..... Ninja Dice!
Miniature Tech Specs:
The Minis will be done with injection molding and the end result will be a much harder plastic than Zpocalypse and more equivalent to Zpocalypse: Aftermath. The bases will be 30mm for the regular characters and 40mm for Boss characters. The heights of each will vary, especially from a mini like Zombie Jack & Jill versus the much larger Jabberwock. On average, characters run about 35mm in height.
Here's a rough mini scale comparison:
For those of you who have missed any of Greenbrier Game's projects, you can still check them out here:

Risks and challenges
Shipping costs have been the bane of most projects and with Kickstarter. Increasing costs have made shipping games internationally costly for backers and campaigners alike. Although it might seem at first glance that we've also fallen into the shipping cost wars, we will do everything we can in trying to decrease this, even if the solution is offering more value, such as more reward and add-on options, bonuses, and a large roster of easily attainable stretch goal characters to "bulk up" the overall campaign package.
Artistic Justice Games is working closely with Greenbrier Games to ensure that the quality of each mini is top notch. With their experience and understanding of everything from drafts to production and price points, we can concentrate more on our backers and proactively provide an overall excellent experience from this campaign to when backers receive the minis at their door.
Simultaneously we are in production with minis and cards from our previous successfully funded campaign, Fairytale Games: The Battle Royale (link is also available at the the top). We currently have a growing number of updates on that project on our website (www.thefairytalegames.com) and our previous Kickstarter campaign. About 30% of the artwork for the game and all it's expansions and editions are done in only 2 months! We just hired on 5 more extremely talented artists to make things happen even quicker. We will continue to publicly update everyone with news and production schedules as well as update you with this campaign. We are fortunate that Greenbrier Games will be helping us with the blunt of the Minis production to ensure that timely fulfillment and quality will be the focus. That way, the schedule release for our first campaign card game, rewards and add-ons will not deter.
We believe that honesty is as important as regular contact with our backers. You can expect the very best from us, no matter what. By working with high quality production facilities that we've dealt with following previous campaigns, we are confident that we'll be able to deliver the game in a timely manner. Our exacting standards mean that you're guaranteed to get a great game.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Besides looking super cool and are great to collect, you can also use it in place of the player tokens from the Fairytale Games: The Battle Royale or any of its standalone or combinable expansions (Horror Edition, Steampunk Edition, and Zombie Edition.)
Later, we will have a few other games we will introduce that will incorporate the same miniature figures (plus more). For more information about the these games, we'll be releasing some info during this campaign and on our website/facebook.
We're trying to provide a product that strikes an excellent balance between affordability, detail, durability, and the convenience of the end user. To that end, Fairytale Games: Battle Royale miniatures are being made of PVC 95 degrees plastic. Though not a very hard plastic, PVC 95 retains a high amount of detail from the original sculpt, and is also very durable and will hold up well under use. It is also the hardest plastic that can be used that allows for the minis to be preassembled during manufacturing. The technology being used to mold the miniatures is quite advanced - multiple part molds are used, allowing us to create complex and dynamic poses for the characters; having a semi hard plastic allows the miniature parts to release from the mold more easily and minimizes the number of individual parts of a mini that have to be made separately. This essentially frees our 3d artists to sculpt the minis however they want, while also allowing the minis to be made up of only a few individual pieces that can be easily assembled during manufacturing.
It should also be noted that PVC 95 is indeed a harder plastic than what was used in the original Zpocalypse and the Zmaster expansion. It is being used in the Zpocalypse: Aftermath expansion line and we find it to be a major improvement! If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask and I and/or Alex will get back to you.
We're sculpting the figures in Zbrush and really excited to be working in a 35mm scale (Zpocalypse is closer to 28mm), which should allow for a lot of detail to really come through and give these minis a lot presence on the table or shelf. I like minis with a little chunkiness to them, but at this scale we can also work with some more naturalistic proportions without risking limbs that appear too spindly. We're also working with 30 and 40mm circular bases, which give us a lot more room for posing compared to the Zpoc bases, and we're even giving each character their own personalized terrain on which to stand, which is proving to be really fun.
All editions have the same basic gameplay (including the Fairytale and Legends of Time expansions.) BUT, the Zombie Edition, Steampunk Edition, and Horror Edition offer NEW gameplay mechanics that fit the theme and storyline. You can play these editions (not the expansions) by themselves or combine them together with the others.
An example would be if you combined Zombie with Battle Royale..... One of the game nuances, is that when a character dies, instead of picking another character to play as (and getting behind on your death toll quota), you will become the Zombified version of your character with new and limited abilities. As a zombie, you can eat the dead to regain health or choose not to kill a person, but "turn" them, giving them a chance to be cured within a number of rounds (or in our game, days). This goes on all while other things in the game are happening (for example, in Steampunk Edition, some characters might be also getting hunted by the 4 Horsemen Hitmen).
You can even be different (depending on who you play this game with) and even if everyone is playing Steampunk Edition, say you want to use your Horror Edition character just for grins or be the sole and very lonely Zombie. LOL.
The difference between the games are pretty exciting. Although all of them share the same gameplay as the original Fairytale Games: The Battle Royale, the other editions follow a different storyline and have new gameplay mechanics. Each of the editions can be played by themselves or combined with the others.
Here's a quick list of the unique gameplay mechanics offered in the different versions:
New Gameplay Mechanics/Things to Include:
Added to this, we'll see a two types of in-game villain groups that the Queens have placed to test the wit and will of their would-be Champion. Be prepared to face:

We have a lot of great tiers, but depending on if you're coming in from our last campaign or are completely new to the Fairytale Games universe, your wants may be different. Here's a little disambiguation to help you out.
This tier is for those who just want a few add-ons like the Artbook or Super Fairytale Fighters 2. A very casual but excellent tier, especially if you had just come from our previous campaign and want to give your support but aren't all that interested in Minis. Note, that this tier is only for the US and can be used to add on a couple of minis if you'd like.
LITTLE BOY BLUE TIER
This is the INTERNATIONAL version of the toto tier. Once again, great for adding art books, art posters and other great add-ons. The only catch is that minis are not available for this tier. Note, that shipping (for this tier only) is $15 Canadian / $25 Europe / $35 Everywhere else.
PUSS IN BOOTS and THREE LITTLE PIGS
These tiers are for those who just want a sample of the minis. This tier allows you to choose from any minis from the campaign box sets (not from the Sacred 40 from the add-ons). US Only for this Tier.
This tier lets you choose from any available box set. If a box set is incomplete on the chart, then it will not be available until it's complete. Also, here on up, you'll be getting the Exclusive Queen of Hearts Character Card and Quest Card as well as our Illustrated E-Book! US Only for this Tier.
MORGAN LA FAY
This tier is for the casual backer who wants to sample 1 mini and get 2 of the Editions of Fairytale Games (Battle Royale, Horror Edition, Steampunk Edition or Zombie Edition.) This tier is great for you enter the Fairytale Games Universe.
BIG BAD WOLF
THE SWEET SPOT! For those just wanting minis to start off with, this is an ENORMOUS value! You will receive ALL Box Sets (the wording on the tiers are a bit confusing) and more importantly, you will get ALL UNLOCKED STRETCH GOALS free! As we unlock more stretches, the value can just keep going up.
This is perfect for those who really want to dive into the Fairytale Universe. You will receive ALL FOUR Editions of Fairytale Games + the Big Bad Tier + Unlocked Stretch Goals!
Temporarily, this offers a little discount on an Artbook for those from the previous campaign who want the minis and something new. We'll soon phase this tier out for something a bit better for previous backers.. coming soon!
This tier is for those who JUST WANT MINIS! This is the Big Bad Wolf Tier + The Sacred 40 + Unlocked Stretch Goals! This is a great value as the Sacred 40 are already discounted from MSRP. On top of that, you get the "double up" discount from the add-ons and another discount from this tier!
Missing all 4 Fairytale Games Editions and the 2 Expansion Sets (Fairytale and Legends of Time)? Want the Big Bad Wolf Tier too? Get it here! As well, you are receiving the 200 Page Hardcover art book plus a poster print of any character you see on our website (soon to be updated with even more artwork!)
Why not get EVERYTHING in one neat package? Be the explorer Prince Dakkar was. Get all editions, expansions, Big Bad Wolf, Sacred 40, The Collection of Volume 1 and 2 artbooks, All the Super Fairytale Fighters 2 Battlepacks offered in this campaign, Rumplestiltskin, and of course the Exclusives and Unlocked Stretch Goal.
KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE
For someone with a creative mind or would like to dedicate an awesome gift to a special someone. You will create your own character, with your likeness to be produced as a beautifully detailed Resin mini! Your character will also have its own Character Card (illustrated by one of our very talented artists) as well as a player board to play in the Fairytale Games Editions. Plus, you'll receive a poster of your character for framing (signed and certified by the sculptor!) And of course, all of the Prince Dakkar rewards as well!
SO WHY DO I SEE A LOT OF ODDBALL REWARD TIERS?
Some of these were tiers we are trying to phase out because we've been listening to our backers and have shaken things up to offer even more value to the tiers. Because we aren't able to delete old tiers while they still have backers in them, you'll see weird tiers until those backers change over to the new and improved ones of the same value.
YES!!! The Big Bad Wolf Tier and Higher will receive EVERY stretch goal for free. Of course you may add-on an number of extra characters (like a swarm of flying monkeys) if you'd like. But for Big Bad, you will end up receiving all the minis unlocked at no extra cost.
So even if there are 20 box sets available but number 21 only has 3 characters in it, making it an incomplete box, you will still receive those 3 characters.
The Queen of Hearts that is included in the Big Bad Wolf tier and higher is a Character Card, not a mini.
You see, in Battle Royale and the editions, your object is to follow the Queen's game and kill off a certain number of characters to prove you're worthy for them (one win condition) or you can try to defeat the queens by yourself or with your fellow players (while watching out they don't backstab you in the process to try to win quicker or get a better reward.) So the Queens are not playable characters.... until now. At least, one of them is ;)
The other card you get in those tiers is her Quest card that leads to you unlocking her in the game. Basically, you have to finish the quest to be allowed to play as her while the game continues. (Well, unless everyone agrees you can use that card right off). And as everything, there's a story about that and why she might not be a part of the Trinity (the three Queens) going forward.
We added the Little Boy Blue tier as a window for International Backers to get non-mini related items. Because this tier is without minis, shipping rates are $10 Canada / $25 Europe / $35 Other Countries.
It will be the next edition of Fairytale Games that make things "right", after the Zombies run loose in Zombie Edition. But in the process causing Titans to fall, truly epic quests to transpire, and forcing heroes and villains to band together with Roman and Greek Gods/Goddesses to challenge the horrors unleashed by the very curious Pandora who had a very huge "oops" moment.
So, expect new gameplay mechanics, character mash-ups, lots of bosses to battle and a concentration on a larger goal of saving the world or taking it over.
This is not part of this campaign and will be coming next year!
1. You get a FREE Undead Viking Mini (for Fairytale Games)!
2. You get a FREE Undead Battlefield Challenge Card (for Ninja Dice)!
3. You're basically getting Free International Shipping!
4. European Backers do not have to pay VAT or Duties because we now have European Shipping Distribution!
We are now offering a bonus gift to all Backers who back both the Fairytales Games Miniatures project and Ninja Dice. We are giving away a special Fairytale themed location card for Ninja Dice, and a special Frost Viking Guest Miniature of Lance the Undead Viking. You may know him from his board game reviews, in fact any day now he will be posting a review of Ninja Dice. You will get both give-aways for FREE, by just supporting 2 projects you may already love!
Below you can see the fantastic art from Fairytale games depicting a concept of the artwork of Lance as the Undead (Frost) Viking!
BUT WAIT.. that's not all - International Shipping Deal!
In a nutshell how you would like to pay at least just $5 more for another game or maybe even get it for free and save money on shipping?
We have heard over and over again how shipping is royally expensive. For those international backers backing both projects we are going to reduce the shipping cost. This will result in a delay shipment of Ninja Dice as they will be packed together with your FairyTale project but the cost savings will be well worth it.
To take advantage of the savings simply back at Big Bad wolf or higher on the Fairytale Project & the Flying Ninja Level on Ninja Dice.
Fairytale Games Campaign: You no longer have to add extra to your Pledge for Shipping! (Meaning, FREE SHIPPING UP TO $40)!!! Overall, this is on the upwards of $40 in savings.
Exciting News For European Backers!!!
We are pleased to announce we have partnered with a UK shipping company, thus all EU based shipments will be shipped from within the EU avoiding VAT and Duty fees.
(*Note: This was written by one of the backers who created and support the idea of the Mystery Box.)
What's In The Box? WHAT'S IN THE BOX??!!?!
The Ins and Outs and maybe a peek inside: The Mystery Box!
*** *** *** *** *** *** ***
Intrigued Backer: A Mystery Box? Hmmm...I am intrigued Cheesecake Tink. What is it?
Hai: It's an experiment. It's a community based meta-fund. It's a little bit of magic.
Confused Backer: Huh?
Hai: It's basically a SWAG BAG OF MYSTERY!
Swag Loving Backer: Swag? Now I am interested! So how does it work?
Hai: A small $5 add-on pledges to the Mystery Box- you pledge $5 - you get a Mystery Box!
But it is also an open ended pledge - you can pledge $5, $10, $15 or even $23 dollars to the Mystery Box fund.
The more money everyone pledges into the Mystery Box - the bigger and better it gets!
But the FIRST RULE OF MYSTERY BOX AND THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE OF MYSTERY BOX IS:
EVERYONE GETS THE SAME MYSTERY BOX!
A $5 'Safe' Pledge vs a $20 Backer Royale Community Spirit Bit O' Craziness Pledge nets the same swag
Skeptical Backer: Wait a minute! But, but, ...won't most people just pledge $5??? Why would I overpledge???
Hai: Well - that is why it is an experiment of community, a gamble, a tip jar, and a Box O Mystery
Mystery Box IS a Gamble
First of all, Mystery Box is a gamble in and of itself. It is a meta-funded add-on in the corner of the larger campaign. It is for the Backers Royale - built by the Backers Royale ;)
And yes - it is a safe estimate that Mystery Box Funding will hover around Backers x 5
BUT if everyone jumped into the Mystery Box at $10 to start - the box just got bigger and 'betterier right' out of the gate. :P
That's a gamble - we have no idea what any one of us is doing about Mystery Box - but we just might be willing to press our luck a little
Mystery Box IS a Tip Jar
Mystery Box can also be a way to say thank you.
Thanks for a great 34 days Alex - here's a couple of bucks. I believe in magic!
Thank you Loremasters - for creating a wonderful one-stop Wiki of Art and Info. You did an amazing job in a short amount of time. You gave a little something to all of us. Here's a tip for all the hard work. A tip we all can share.
And who can't watch Annie's wonderful Fan Tribute without a desire to throw a dollar into the Mystery Box?
Mystery Box IS a Community Rallying Point
A hundred or so short of the next Unlock Box? Time to rally! By slipping a dollar or two into the Mystery Box we can push funding to the next mini while building the Mystery Box for ourselves!
Mystery Box IS a Mystery!
Monty Haul Dungeon? Try a Monty Haul Swag Bag!
WE, The Backers Royale, are 'creating' the Mystery Box two ways: by Funding it and by Submitting Ideas for what we can find inside it.
Who isn't a bit curious to take a risk and see what is behind door number 3?
Somewhat Convinced Backer: I'm beginning to see the Big Picture, but still - overpledging?
Well, no one is forced to stray from the $5 initial pledge.
But Backers Royale - we are a little crazy, a little loyal, and we like to believe in magic.
Anyone who overpledges is doing it for their own reasons - to gamble, to say thanks, to be part of a community experiment, to rally, to show Backer Royale spirit, to just see what happens.
For whatever reason - those that do it are doing it willingly.
There's a 'No Gripe' clause! :P :P :) :)
The spirit of the Mystery Box overpledge is the same as an 11th Hour rally.
Let's just say at t-minus 1 hour we are just $1000 from the 'final' mini! Someone, most likely a very funding oriented pixie, screams 'Rally!' and 100 people throw in 10 dollars and FINAL UNLOCK!!!! Technically, those 100 people just 'pledge-paid for' the last mini and everyone else gets it for free. Will any of those 100 people look back? Doubtful - they made their own decision, did what they did for whatever reason, and the Backer Royale community benefitted.
Ok - Alex may get one or two notes demanding that these minis be made super special exclusive bits of plastic magic that no one else deserves. But only one or two, I'm sure... ;)
Now that sort of rally will also benefits the Mystery Box. ;) *hee hee*
The risk of not knowing what other people are putting in the Mystery Box creates a sort of limited radius to stray from the '5 dollar safe zone'. The overpledge never goes beyond the 'Eh, why not?' comfort zone of the individual.
And knowing Alex THE SECOND RULE OF MYSTERY BOX is he will go out of his way to make the most of what we put into it. :)
Big Pictured Backer: Ok, now I see the Big Picture! What do I do and how do I add-on in general?
Hai: The Cheesecake Tink Help Desk is at your service. Allow me to demonstrate with a simple example.
Let's say you are at Iron John ($150) and you want to pledge Pulp ($10 Exclusive!!!!) and $8 for the Mystery Box ($5 'initial pledge' and $3 'tip' because you love the Wiki)
Total desired pledge: $168
How to overpledge for add-ons in 3 easy steps:
1) Hit the happy little blue button that says 'Manage Pledge' and make Pledgey smile.
2) You will be taken to a pledge page divided into two parts: A Pledge Amount Box and a List of Rewards with circles next to them.
A circle will be filled next to the Reward level you want -in this case Iron John. The Pledge Amount box will automatically fill in with $150. Go in and manually type in your PLEDGE PLUS OVERPLEDGE: bringing the pledge amount total to $168 dollars.
3) Keep clicking the 'Continue' button until you reach Amazon and let your credit card do the rest! :)
Astonished Backer: That was so easy I am astonished! Then what happens?
Hai: Some time after the campaign you will receive a survey either through Kickstart or Backerkit or some such creature. There are boxes to check to verify your pledge level, but add-on pledging is unassigned. You overpledged $18 so you would check a box for Pulp Pack and Mystery Box to show what your overfunding should be allotted to. Next to the Mystery Box check point there will most likely be a slot to fill in your total Mystery Box pledge. You will type $8 dollars. Mystery Box ahoy!
Mystery Box'd Backer: And then how exactly will the Mystery Box get funded and more importantly SWAG! How will SWAG be determined!! I love SWAG!
Hai: Think of the Mystery Box as one of those fund raising thermometers at the Local Library that is always trying to raise funds because people don't like to touch books in this day and age. As Alex tallies the Mystery Box funds - we can imagine him coloring in the thermometer. At certain levels of the Boxometer are little markers for swag prize options. As we reach those levels - those options unlock as potential prizes. :)
Those markers will be generic - exclusive card, card packs, t-shirts, stickers, a delicious secret mini, etc. Part of the mystery of Mystery Box is we don't know where those markers lie on the Boxometer. Alex is behind the scenes crunching numbers and determining costs of the various swag prizes. In the end, Mystery Box funding lets Alex know what swag options he has to work with and then he turns to the Backer Royale votes on the Mystery Box Vote update page to see what specifically people are shouting about.
THE THIRD RULE OF MYSTERY BOX IS:
Our funding unlocks the swag - our ideas shape them into what might actually come out of the box.
Impressed Backer: I'm impressed. How unique! I have never...
Interupting Backer: EXCUSE ME! I crunched some numbers of my own!!! If a knight is $1,500 dollars then for $6,000 we get 4 minis! That's Math, Baby!!!!!
Hai: Unfortunately, Math is not always Business. One of the major problems to iron out with the Mystery Box meta-fund was that it will cause a little Campaign Bloating (much like our Mystery Box worthy Cheesecake Cthulhu.) Throwing money into the Mystery Box is funding prizes, but also unlocking minis in the True Campaign. The tiers of the mysterious, shadowy, background Boxometer have to be a little inflated. They need to pay for the various meta-prizes and throw a little funding back into the True Campaign before hitting the next Box-o-tier. :) Alex and AJG are giving us an experimental Swag Bag of Mystery to play around with. This is something new, unique, and a little risky for a campaign with only 5k between each 'freebie'.
For example if Mystery Box earns $10,000 it absorbs the funding for two True Campaign minis. I'm sure $10,000 will make for a grand Mystery Box indeed, but some of that does have to go back into the Main Campaign to act as a cushion. You can't expect a Mystery Fund of $10,000 dollars to garner two Mystery minis while unlocking two for 'free' also.
Agreeing Backer: Ok, that's understandable. I'm sure whatever the Mystery Box funds will be fun and interesting.
Hai: I'm sure also. AJG does much to return the love of The Backers Royale.
If we go out of our way to fund, I'm sure they'll go out of their way to make it fun! :)
Rules Lawyering Backer: Wasn't that the SECOND RULE OF MYSTERY BOX?
Hai: Yes - it is good to know someone is actually reading this! :)
Highly Suspicious Backer: But wait! How do we know AJG isn't going to just take the money and run and give us all a little 'Thanks for Playing' trinket.
Hai: Well, I wouldn't move out of the Safe Square One of an Initial Pledge then.
While the Mystery Box is a mystery and mysteries can be scary, it is also an entity filled with magic.
Magic brought to an AJG campaign by the Backers Royale and the organic haphazard magical charm AJG infuses into their campaigns and lets them grow. ;) You have to admit - Day One is never the same as the Final 48 in an AJG campaign.
I trust both AJG and the Backers Royale to make this work. If there ever was a place to experiment with a meta-fund it is right here. There's a lot of trust and a lot of magic in Fairytale Land.
*AHEM* (whispers) Also it is a pretty safe assumption that Mystery Box will fund somewhere between Backers x 5 and Backers x 10. ;) At least that's what a little pixie number crunching told me. Not much of a highway to commit robbery on. I don't think anyone will be running off to Rio.
Soothed Backer: I'm soothed. Will Mystery Box give us just one prize or multi-swag?
Hai: On that I can't give an answer. I don't know what the Mystery Box Boxometer levels read. If one looks at prize options as small, medium, and large. I'm sure there might be a tier or two that say: 3 Smalls or Medium and Small etc. That's all about price points vs prize points though and one of the mysteries of Mystery Box.
I do think it is safe to say that THE FOURTH RULE OF MYSTERY BOX IS: The more we put into it the more we will get out of it. :)
Curious Backer: Ok, I'm convinced. Let's just take a peek inside the box....
OWWWWWWWWW! MY NOSE!!!!!!!!!!
Hai: I said 'MAYBE'- have a peek inside'
THE FIFTH RULE OF MYSTERY BOX IS: No Peeking!!!!
