 What is Radix?

Radix is a 2D open-world puzzle platformer that stresses exploration and puzzle problem-solving in beautifully pixelated environments. Players will scour the different worlds for runes while avoiding the many dangerous puzzles and traps waiting to harm them. Runes will then be spent to unlock one of five staff abilities in any order which allows for gameplay customization and opens up different routes throughout the hazardous world of Radix.

There are also five special abilities that can be obtained by collecting the five gem pieces of each world. There is no fighting in Radix, making the goal of the game exploration and puzzle solving exclusively. We really want players to think about how to approach each challenge, and unravel the mysterious background behind the world of Radix.

Demo? Updates?

We have a demo already, and we are updating our Facebook page whenever new milestones are reached! We also have a company website that has information on Radix, and other projects we make or are in the process of making. Our side projects will be collected into the NewFort Arcade. The goal of the NewFort Arcade is to let you guys play some games while we work on our bigger projects. What's unique about this Arcade is that we won't have any ads on it, and you don't have to pay anything. These games are 100% free for your enjoyment!

What can you do in Radix?

Since Radix is a game about puzzle solving and exploration, we wanted players to have unique abilities that allowed them to have a lot of mobility and many uses. There are five main abilities in Radix: swing, hover, invincibility, climb, and dash. Each of these abilities can be used in a variety of ways to help the player move around the map and solve puzzles.

Because we want each player to have a unique experience, we allowed the player to decide what ability they start with, and what abilities they proceed to obtain. The way the players explore the world of Radix is through portals. Portals take the player to different areas and allow access to deeper parts of those areas. The player will be able to choose what order they want to visit each of the five main areas. The player goes deeper into an area when they go through portals inside of that area. After collecting all five abilities and all five special abilities, the secrets of Radix may yet be revealed!

What makes Radix Different?

Radix is a throwback to old school platformers, but it's different in the sense of the player's objective. The game is much more thoughtful and story driven than a lot of the old school games we all loved as kids. The goal of this game is to give the player a lot to think about, while also constantly challenging them to become better. We really want players to progress throughout the game so that they become masters by the end of it. Because of this, there will be a ton of content for people to explore!

The Level Editor

With Radix, there is also the level editor which allows you to create your own custom levels to play or share with friends. This powerful tool lets you quickly create the levels while being able to use your own art assets or any of the assets from the game. Visual buttons and a map view that matches the game help you assemble the map easily. The goal of the level editor is to allow us to make the game, but also to allow you, the players, to make your own levels. We realize how much creativity people have nowadays and we want you all to express that! The editor is simple to use, making it a great tool for both us and you!

Stretch Goals:

We really want you, the fans, to get involved in Radix! Because of this, we have made a lot of our stretch goals community based. We want you to make your own textures for the game, make your own characters, create levels and be able to share them and have a lot of customization in general. We have seen the potential in our own dabbling of modding games that making content for a game you enjoy is awesome!

Steam Greenlight

Steam is a great way to get games to be more accessible! We want to allow more people to try out and play Radix! To get Radix Greenlit, we need $100 to apply, and we need to spend quite a bit of extra time to present the game to Valve.

Puzzle DLC

To give back to you guys, we want to include a puzzle pack DLC for free just for showing your support! This will include a large amount of customized levels that allow people to really put their Radix skills to the test! We know the game is open-world, but we also love games like Portal, where the objective is to go from room to room, solving increasingly difficult puzzles. We would need more funding for this to spend time to create new art assets and well thought out levels.

Tile/Texture Editor

As stated before, we really want you all to get your creative juices flowing! This stretch goal is for those who enjoy making mods, creating digital graphics, or just making art in general! This editor will be easy to use and allow you to easily make your own textures for the game, as well as share them with friends! We already have a start on the tile/texture editor, but we would need more funding to continue working on it alongside the game. We want to make it as nice and user friendly as possible for you!

Skin Creation

Along with re-texturing the game, we want to allow you to make your own character skins! Because making characters is a lot different than making tiles, we'll need to spend more time making the skin creator. We believe custom characters and animations would be awesome to have, and we would make it as easy as possible to share them with other people. The skin creator would be a great addition to the Radix bundle, but it will also take a lot more work to complete. This means we need more of an incentive to make it. If you guys show us you want it, then we are more than willing to make it!

Community Puzzles

Along with textures and skins, we want you all to create your own levels! If we meet this stretch goal, we will spend the time and effort to get a community forum going to allow players to share levels easily, as well as the textures and skins. This will be challenging to do, because it will require obtaining our own servers and making a whole new set of websites, as well as a whole new way to share puzzles. We will need quite a bit of funding for this stretch goal because we will end up paying someone to host servers for the game. We will also incorporate the other stretch goals into on online "forum" like structure where people can share their content with each other!

Character Creator

The character creator is another feature we would like to add. It will allow people who begin the game to use pre-made characters with different hair, clothes, accessories, etc. This would be challenging to make because it requires a lot of art assets and huge amount coding to create a new interface with all of these features. We would also try to incorporate an easy way to get players to use each other's custom accessories/clothes/etc. This requires re-factoring a lot of code and making a ton of new art. The funding for this will go towards spending a lot more time making this feature.

iPad/Mobile

It would be great to get Radix onto mobile devices (specifically iPad for usability), but it would take a lot of time and resources for us to learn how to use the iOS interface and coding language. We would also include the features from previous stretch goals, so essentially we would be making the entire game and all of the extra features so that you all can play it on mobile devices. As much as we would like to do this, it would require a lot of funding because of the massive amount of work that would need to be done. If we get enough support, we would be more than happy to continue making Radix content!

What Will the Money Be Used For?

We need funding for the initial game to host our own website, buy products/tools to help create the game, and to also have some sort of payment for doing the work. We would do the work for free, but we can't do it for a living if we get nothing out of it. For the stretch goals above, there is a short description as to why we need more funding for each.

Risks and challenges

We are risking a lot to make this game. As much as we enjoy game development, we need to have funding in order to do it for a living. Radix is our first title, and being so, we want to show everyone what we are capable of and give as much back to the community as we can. The goal of Radix is to give a new genuine experience to people so that in return, we can get our feet off the ground as a game studio. If we receive enough funding, we can continue to make interesting and unique games for the fans that play them!

A big challenge in making Radix is the fact that we are still in college. Because we are still in college, we have to take full loads of classes and do Co-Op internships while making the game. We will gladly make the game in our free time, but we need to know people will have our backs. Because this is our first full fledged title, we are learning a lot as we go. We hope that you, the fans, will join us in our journey to becoming a great game studio!
