About this project
"All the Growing Things" started out as comic in my notebook. It has since grown from those early five pages into a webcomic with over 100 pages. The current issue is all set to wrap up, and when it does I will have enough content with additional pin-ups, sketches and notes to create a 148 page trade paperback comic book.
Why is "All the Growing Things" worth your time and money? The main character of "All the Growing Things" is Maude, an elderly gardener. She's an amalgamation of a bunch of elderly women I've known: she's gruff and unsentimental at times, not afraid to thieve, is quicker than she looks, and has a wicked jab with her shovel.
While it may seem like the set up to a joke to have an elderly woman fighting off underground monsters that are destroying her garden, there is much more to the story. Throughout the course of the story, Maude is confronted with the choices between what's right and what's easy, and has to face the ghosts of her past choices, and has to either defeat them, or live with them.
If you'd like to read the comic before you plunk any money down, (and that's more than fair enough) - the comic can be found at my website.
I'd like to print 500 copies of "All the Growing Things" in a comic trade format. The price breakdown I got from the printer is a little intimidating, but for each additional $1000 I get over my goal, I can print 500 more comics, but really, just 500 seems like an intimidating number to start with. I'm not sure I can wrap my head around printing 1000+ of these. (Although, I AM willing to try!)
Why I need help printing this: I'm a penniless art student. I'll end up printing "All the Growing Things" sooner or later, but I'd like to do it sooner. Someday I'll have an actual job making grown-up money, but as it is I'm just not there yet.
Project Details: 500 copies of each book, which consists of 140 black and white pages, and 8 interior color pages. Full color cover (inside and out.) These will be printed locally (well, just across town from me, but if you live in New York then I guess it's not all that local to you).
Above: What lovely devices for marking where you are in your books!
Above: Some of the prints on offer. There are also two other ones I've not yet included that I really do need to photo! These are all single hand-pressed prints, made with love and only one color. In these cases, that color is brown (because it looks pretty classy!)
Above are the four small 4" x 4" paintings. Choose A, B, C, or D if you're one of the 350$ pledgers.
You know you need a Butthole Cat in your life. He's a beautiful 6" x 6" oil painting.
Last but not least, here is where the selection of 8" paintings will be placed. I really need to finish these up, but I also have to get ready for the comicon this weekend (Who's always late to the party? ME!)
Please let me know where you're at - I'll have to calculate shipping to make sure that what I send you gets to you without the post office getting mad at either of us!
I know I talk a lot (or... write a lot) but I want to say thank you for at least clicking on this page and skimming it this far!
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
