About this project
The Story So Far...
In October 2011, we spent two weeks recording six songs for the holiday season. Within the first few days, we knew we were on to something. The feeling of creating and arranging new music out of thin air was addicting. We were hooked, and those six songs went on to become our debut iTunes release, "The Winter Project."
Shortly after the late 2011 release of "The Winter Project", we released another album on iTunes in early 2012 entitled "Paris." These two releases have sparked an unbelievable journey for us, our families, and our friends. We've traveled through the mid-west to show people our music, shared the stage with bands we used to watch from the crowd, and most importantly, we've made incredible new friends and fans along the way. Our "addiction" to creating music has become our dream, and we are fully aware that we wouldn't be able to live out this dream without your support.
As exciting as the past two years have been for us, it's nothing compared to what's coming in 2013. We have developed a very detailed and precise marketing strategy that will take our group to the next level. As a first step in this direction, we are very excited to announce Greg Spero, a nationally recognized jazz pianist, as a part of our production team! Spero has recorded with the top echelon of hip-hop artists (from Jay Z's producer Ski Beatz to Digital Underground founder Shock G), and performs with the very best of modern jazz, including Dave Weckl, Oz Noy and Corey Wilkes.
As you can see, this is a great opportunity for our family, friends and fans, to directly help the band you've always supported. This is a sure way to gain national recognition and finally become a national recording group! We have a lot in store for this year, but first and foremost, it all starts with a new album!
The Next Chapter...
In early January 2013, we'll be heading back to the studio for four straight weeks, to fulfill a lifelong commitment of recording and releasing a music project every year. After months of writing and arranging new material, the songs have finally come together to make an album that we will be proud of and, we can't wait to share it with you.
So, within the second week of the New Year, we'll be narrowing down our new songs to our ten favorites and begin recording at World Music Studios in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Here's Where You Come In...
As you can imagine, releasing an album as an independent group is an exciting but difficult task. Doing so means we will have the final say on every aspect of the record, from song choice to album art to advertising, but that also means we will need to fund the entire operation ourselves. Fortunately, the overall cost of studio time, mixing, mastering and art design will be covered by us. The cost of manufacturing, marketing and promotion is just more than we've been able to put away in our savings. That's where (we're hoping) you come in. This Kickstarter is for our friends, family, and fans who are interested in making sure this album sees the light of day! It's a chance for you to take the music industry into your own hands and essentially become our record label!
Of course, if you're familiar with Kickstarter, you know that helping us to make this record will not leave you empty handed. We spent a lot of time thinking of different rewards and experiences for each level of contribution, and we think we came up with some really nice options.
What's In It For You...
So, let’s talk about the rewards.
First and foremost, you’ll get a digital download of the album weeks before
it’s available to the public for just $5. That’s half of what it will cost on
iTunes or AmazonMP3 when it’s officially released, so this is the cheapest and
fastest way to get the record and our way to let you guys know how much your
contribution is appreciated. Beyond that, there are plenty of other options
depending on how much you are able to contribute: an advanced physical copy of
the record, Kevin Hayden Trio t-shirt, 20 page hi-def photo book, and more. All of the rewards are listed in detail to the right.
Again, we know we wouldn't be able to do this without your support, and we're excited that Kickstarter gives us the opportunity to include you in the making of this album. We sincerely appreciate every contribution, no matter how big or small, and we can’t thank you enough for deciding to be a part of this next big step for the Kevin Hayden Trio.
Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges...
When we head back to the studio this January, we'll be facing a handful of challenges that we've been fortunate to become familiar with over the past two years. Once recording is completed, we will still have mixing, mastering, artwork/design, and manufacturing ahead of us. We will be using the same team that we've had in place for both of our previous releases in hopes for a smooth post-production schedule. Thanks again for your support!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
