How can something that is so fascinating for the dedicated be almost impossible to explain to the outsider?
No other type of fishing has the same impact on the angler than fly fishing for Atlantic salmon. A big part of that is because it's challenging, the times when it’s easy to catch a salmon are very few. The most dedicated anglers, with the greatest patience are willing to work extremely hard to get the chance to feel the power from a big wild Atlantic salmon.
The Atlantic salmon is a species with an uncertain future in many rivers. Threats comes in several different forms, but the worst ones are caused by human activities at sea, and that will this project set lights on. About salmon, salmon fishing and salmon fishermen there are a lot of interesting stories to tell.
In a documentary series we will follow Mattias Helde and Jonas Runnberg, two very experienced swedish salmon fly fishermen, on trips to some of the most famous rivers in Europe. We will dig deep into what salmon fishing is all about. You will meet some of the most interesting people that are out there chasing for salmon and all of this will be recorded in beautiful landscapes.
We will make two programs in this first round, one from Scotland in April and one from Norway during the coming summer, but the goal is to visit other interesting places later on and make programs from there as well. The programs will be published on a coming new Youtube-channel for this project and are estimated to be around 20 minutes each.
During more than ten years I have collected quite a lot of material from my own fishing trips, which you can see parts of in the video connected to this project, and there you get a feeling for what you can expect. The nice clips included with Mattias and Jonas are produced by themselves.
I hope you like it and will support us to make this exiting project come true.
Risks and challenges
Periods of poor fishing are reality when it comes to salmon fishing and always when filming in nature the circumstances can change suddenly. Extreme weather conditions can lead to delays in recordings, therefore we plan to have extra days of filming as back up.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
