I need your help!
In late June I will open a solo show in Canberra Australia. It is my hope to produce a short catalog that will document the work in the show as well as celebrate my time abroad! The funds raised through Kickstarter will support the publication costs, professional photography, and help with graphic design.
In 2010 I was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship and moved to Australia in early 2011. This fellowship afforded me the opportunity to take up long-term residence at the prestigious Australian National University and develop a body of work. The impetus for this journey was to study Annealing factors of complex glass forms with Richard Whiteley, head of workshop, whom I met a year prior as a student at Pilchuck, and gain a better understanding of how glass behaves in a mold in a kiln. What was supposed to be a nine-month endeavor has turned into a year and half adventure.
About a year ago I reached out to the Canberra Glassworks and proposed an exhibition that would demonstrate the research I was completing. At the time I had little to go on as I had little more than empty molds and broken bits of glass to show. I wanted to first encompass the totality of the Fulbright experience and second the work I was doing. Through the course of the next year an outpouring of research and technical development was achieved in the large-scale castings I was executing. I made numerous procedural developments in mold technology that aided in the survival of several new works. Simultaneously I began to deviate from the research I sought out to do and initiated exploration into reflection, solidity, and transparency. Aspects I have always been interested in but never fully investigated.
The attentive and meaningful time I have spent with my work has yielded a crop of new and engaging sculptures that will make up the show “Clearly”
With your help I hope to take this show one step further and publish an exhibition catalog that will live far after the show has been struck.
Please check out the cool rewards and help make this possible!
