About this project
As a professional cake decorator, I get to make gorgeous edible creations on a regular basis, which I love. But the really rewarding part of what I do is helping other people learn to master the art of cake decorating themselves. Watching students' eyes light up when they witness a secret 'trick of the trade' in action is very gratifying, and I want to make that experience accessible to non-professionals of all skill levels in my home community of Maplewood, New Jersey.
I've been teaching decorating classes for years, both internationally and in my cake shop in New York. But the constant travel takes too much time away from teaching itself, and our small shop in NYC is not large enough to comfortably hold a class full of students rolling out fondant and decorating large display cakes. I want to create a space where cake enthusiasts from all different backgrounds can come together to learn not just from me and visiting instructors, but from each other as well. That's where you come in! Please help me make this fun and functional space a reality. I have the location, but am still in need of lots of tools and equipment, and promotional materials so that we can hit the ground running and start creating the next generation of super-decorators! If you have a passion for things that are beautiful and delicious, or you just want to see a unique and interesting small business thrive in our community, please consider making a pledge to help us.
