      You can use any cow leather you want. Important is to use the skin side to sharpen ;).
      Our separate campaign for the LIGNUM Boards is coming this Friday, 6th of January via Indiegogo.

      What are the dimensions of the //SKID cutting board?

    22. LIGNUM Projektgründer am December 20

      @Luke
      Yes for //SKID light or dark standard editions we can do that :). With Kickstarter benefits we can offer you a quality damascus blade for 299€ and for a premium quality folded damascus blade made in solingen (used in the mahogany edition) we charge 509€ to the standard //SKID price.
      If u like to do so just add the amount of money to ur pledge and we ll leave a note in your order. Thanks ;).

    23. LIGNUM Projektgründer am December 20

      @thelamby
      The angle of the blade is around 15°, but u always sharpen ur //SKID around 30° in the area of the cutting edge, so u won't touch the wooden body or rather junction. To sharpen a quality knife in general is an art in itself we know that :). Thats why you will find detailed instructions in the delivery of ur //SKID ;). Even a youtube video will follow. U can find more information in the FAQ area.

      What is the cutting angle of the edge of the SKID knife? And I was wondering if you have done any long term testing? I ask because I am curious about the longevity of the steel-wood junction

      Thanks you.

    31. James Mitarbeiter am December 13

      Hello Chawin,

      Thank you for your question.
      The easiest way is, if you choose the reward for the limited edition and ad 1190€ to the pledge amount.
      We put a note in the backend, that you added the mahogany edition.

      169€ limited edition
      + 1190€ mahogany edition
      = 1359€ total

      Feel free to contact us by mail for further questions: james@lignum.io

      sharpen techniques:
      # leather for every 3rd use (back to the roots)
      # once in a month (max) you can use a sandstone (grain size: 1000 first/3000 second), with warm water and a bottle of red wine (of course)
      # more information about the angle and repetitions are in the delivery of your //SKID

    34. LIGNUM Projektgründer am December 8

      @Thomas
      What a coincidence...Magdeburg the city of traditionally steel industries.
      Our used steel has a kind of self-sharpening ability. Through its fine carbide structure and its simultaneous high amount of wolfram, the blade is exceptional cutting stable. How often you have to sharpen your /SKID depends on what you are cutting - so if u just cutting vegetables, meat and fruits, it won't be necessary to sharpen your //SKID. To say it with my grandfathers words: You only need a piece of leather to sharpen our knife, like the old barbers.

      My grandfather was a butcher, in Magdeburg by the way, and I remember one thing from my childhood very clear. My family always had sharp knife's. Some of them used for many years and therefore their blade was significantly smaller than it used to be. I guess the blade (the steel part) of //SKID will become smaller through the process of sharpening the blade. I know you wrote, that the blade stayed sharp for a long time, but if it needs to be sharpened, how often do you think that will be possible and what technique should be used?
