UPDATE: Fellow District 13 rebels!! We are THRILLED to have reached our goal with three days to spare, and we couldn't have done it without your donations & support! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
We've decided to announce our stretch goal, just in case you're wondering "what happens now that you've raised $6000?". If we manage to reach $6500 over the next 3 days, we'll be able to rent an aerial drone for the battle scenes! (An aerial drone is a remote-control flying camera, "Our UAV is online!" for you Call of Duty fans) How cool will it be to see all the fighting and explosions from a birds-eye view??
So if you're just checking out this project for the first time, it's not too late to help make this short film AMAZING. Thank you again for your generosity and support. We couldn't do it without you!!
UPDATE #2: We're excited to reveal our custom military District 13 patch! ANYONE who donates $15 or more receives one of these bad boys, and you'll see your favorite rebels sporting this patch on their uniforms in Mockingjay: Burn. These embroidered patches are velcro-backed so you can easily slap them onto anything.
UPDATE #3: We're inviting ALL of our backers to attend the premiere screening of Mockingjay: Burn with the cast and crew! We haven't determined an exact date yet, but we know it will take place in Los Angeles in the late summer/early fall of 2014. More details to come!
Kristen Brancaccio teams up with Leo Kei Angelos, the director who brought you First Impressions (a Wonder Woman film) and Epic Chick Fight to bring you Mockingjay: Burn, a Hunger Games-inspired short film.
Mockingjay: Burn will show Katniss' life as the mockingjay symbol of District 13's rebellion juxtaposed with glimpses of the Capitol's extravagant lifestyles. We aim to create a short film stylistically reminiscent of District 9 that provides a gritty, more realistic depiction of war, while at the same time staying true to the characters, relationships and events in Mockingjay. We LOVE the official movies, but we want to realize our own vision of Suzanne Collins' universe because we're die-hard fans of the books! This is a fan film and is not affiliated with Lionsgate or Suzanne Collins.
Cast members include Kristen Brancaccio (The Key of Awesome) as Katniss, Hailey Bright (First Impressions) as Cressida, James Logan (Hunger Games: Catching Fire) as Boggs, Alex Albrecht (Diggnation, The Totally Rad Show) as the Capitol Presenter, Josh Ovenshire (Smosh Games, King of the Nerds) as Tay Victoriatus, Nick Apostolides (The Suffering) as Gale, Nick Uhas (Big Brother, Nickipedia) as Peeta, Erin Darling (AMC Movie Talk) as Melania and Matt Beebe (Cyborg on Life) as the Capitol Assistant.
All the funds raised from Kickstarter will go towards the production of the film: renting camera/ighting equipment, buying costumes/props and providing food for the cast and crew (oh, the irony). All actors involved are donating their time for free to this amazing project.
Help support what Film Combat Syndicate called, "one of the most ambitious, tasteful and spectacular independent fan films based on [The Hunger Games]"!

Risks and challenges
We already have the script written, the locations scouted, shoot dates set and a professional cast & crew excited to make this fan film a reality; all we need is a little money to get the ball rolling.
As always, communication is key and we'll be super happy to hear from you. Talk to us by tweeting Kristen @kristensreality, leaving messages right here on the kickstarter page, or emailing us at email@example.com!
We're confident this project will be completed soon after raising the funds we need! Thanks so much for your support!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Sure! The story will focus on Katniss's involvement in District 13's war efforts, with a glimpse of fancy Capitol life thrown into the mix. Scenes will be directly inspired by some chapters of "Mockingjay", but we're confident our vision will still surprise fans!
Thank you so much for your support!
Around 10 minutes long. We feel like this is the "sweet spot" to tell a good story and also captivate audience's interests with the YouTube format.
We want to shoot this fan film using the Red Epic camera, which is a $20,000 camera and costs a considerable amount to rent. Why the Red Epic? Well, it's the EXACT SAME camera Peter Jackson used to film The Hobbit. So you know the quality is gonna be AWESOME.
A great deal of our expenses will be used to feed everyone, and then there's the cost of props like Katniss' bow! We won't have enough to buy the same one they use in the movies, but we still want to buy a professional bow, not to mention modifying it and having versions for the stunt sequences.
Filmmaking is costly and the money quickly adds up!
We hope not! Fan films have always been a legal grey area; sometimes they're allowed to exist; other times, not so lucky.
There are over a dozen Hunger Games fan films on YouTube (some with millions of views), however, so from the looks of things Lionsgate is graciously allowing fan projects to exist!
They key is that we're not making ANY money off this project (all the money goes strait into production). We also think fan projects like this one actually get fans MORE excited about the official movies and books, and brings new fans into the fold!
If by any reason after we are successfully funded and get shut down, we will refund all pledges to kickstarter backers.
Kristen started the project as a die-hard fan of the books. She is working on bringing aboard talented filmmakers and cast from well-known YouTube channels to be apart of this (we hope) awesome short film.
It will be posted to YouTube!
Yep; one's green and one's hazel. It's really noticeable in natural lighting (like at the end of the kickstarter video =P).
