About

I-SEN1 is a compact, low power consumption multi-sensors board designed to work with XBee module. It allows real-time monitoring for temperature, pressure, humidity and light data. It is provided with three power modes (micro-USB, cable or battery) to adapt your specific needs.

Why do we chose XBee modules?

Simply beacause they are ultra low power consumption on sleep mode (less than 50 µA), they allows high quality network topology and high network security (128 bit AES).

I-SEN1 Key Features

I-SEN1 is not designed to use more than one power connection at the same time. I-SEN1 design has been optimized with regards to the power consumption for higher autonomy when battery power is used and therefore it doesn't has a battery power management circuit.

How I-SEN works?

I-SEN1 is a board which use the XBee module to create mesh sensor network.The XBee module allows power consumption optimization which is a great advantage when using I-SEN1 on battery is necessary. This is translated by the fact that the user can set up the “Sleep” function so that I-SEN1 board consumption reduce significantly.

The sensors values are returned on 10 bits (0-1023). The XBee module converts the analog values into digital (10 bits) and sends them to the Gateway. A software that communicates with the gateway converts those values to measurement units information.

To get start and enjoy I-SEN1 we will provide you a package of files that will help you to set up the I-SEN1. This package includes 3 files:

  • IZI-Gateway.xml 
  • IZI-Battery.xml 
  • IZI-Cable.xml 

 I-SEN1 configuration steps

1. Set up the XBee module that will be used as gateway (the XBee module that will receive the information from I-SENs):

  • Open XCTU software (downloaded from digi.com
  • Load IZI-Gateway.xml file 
  •  Change Channel and Network ID as you prefer
  •  Apply the changes

2. Set up the XBee used with I-SEN1 board:

  • Open XCTU software (downloaded from digi.com
  • If you use I-SEN1 board on battery, load IZI-Battery.xml file, else load IZI-Cable.xml
  •  Change Channel and Network ID width as you prefer
  • Put the address of the XBee that will be used as Gateway and give a name, if identification of the board  
  • Change IR Sample Rate with the frequency of date that you send. For example 0x1388 = 5000 ms, at each 5 seconds the data will be send to the Gateway.
  • Change IR Sleep Time with the same time as IR Sample Rate. For example 0x1F4 = 500 x 10 ms, at each 5 seconds the board will week up to send data from sensors.
  • Apply the changes

3. Connect the XBee module with the I-SEN1 board using the XBee socket .

4. Switch the power of I-SEN1 board ON

5. Create / Open a software that will receive the data from I-SEN1 using XBee API created by digi.com

6. So you can start up quickly, a java open source example will be delivered to you by email, once the project is funded.

If you decide to use cable power for I-SEN1 and load the configuration IZI-Cable.xml, then all the I-SEN1 devices can communicate between them and with the gateway, allowing to extend the network.  

If you decide to use battery power for I-SEN1 and load IZI-Battery.xml file, then the I-SEN1 device will communicate directly with the gateway. In this case we must choose the optimal gateway position so that the communication with all the I-SEN1 devices is achieved.

I-SEN1 is ideal for weather monitoring applications, precisions agriculture, microclimate, industry, conservation applications and many others.

The funds will be used to launch the first mass production which will mean to us, the beginning of a long series of sensor boards that we want to develop for IoT applications. It is very important for us to be founded as it will allow us to create a community around this product above all, receive feedback from the first users and improve the concept if necessary.

Risks and challenges

We are totally engaged to deliver I-SEN1 sensor board fully tested to our backers. We do not manage our efforts to make multi-sensory boards affordable for everyone!
Regarding the manufacturing and assembling phase we already discuss with our suppliers and partners about their availability and support and we are confident that everything will be at schedule.
As plan «B» in case our main suppliers fail or have unexpected logistic/technical issues, we selected a list of « cover » suppliers to be shore that every single I-SEN1 arrives at time to its baker.
As there is always a part of unknown, we do our best to stay focused on our goals and find the best solution to overcome the issues.
