Hi, I am Meg and my company Baker’s Passport kicked-off at the end of 2013 with the goal of creating a fun baking experience for kids that combined teaching them the fundamentals of baking while exposing them to a new language through words, phrases, and games. Our Baking Passports aim at getting kids off the couch and into the kitchen for a fun afternoon with their mom, dad, grandparent, brother, sister, aunt, uncle - or for a play date with their best friends!
I launched our Little Bite Baking Passports to the public as electronic PDF downloads available in Spanish, Japanese, and French language options and kids love them! (check out reviews/press below)
Now I want to take Baker’s Passport to the next level and create a physical product - Baker’s Passport Activity Kits! I need you to help me get this next phase of Baker's Passport off the ground so we can put smiles on the faces of kids everywhere. You contribution will go towards the first run of production of the Little Bite Baker’s Passport Kits in Spanish, Japanese, and French.
Each one of our Baking Passports takes you and your child on an adventure around the kitchen, as they learn fundamental baking skills, practice math and measurements, and complete a series of games and puzzles that will teach your child how to read, write, and speak a new language.
Let me walk you through a passport to give you an idea of what's inside.
First your child is introduced to Harper, our Baker’s Passport tour guide.
Next the adventure starts! First with gathering ingredients and kitchen tools and then Harper leads you child step by step through the recipe and a series of games and puzzles that will expose your child to reading, writing, and speaking a second language.
Along the way, your child will be exposed to math and measurements, as well as vocabulary, counting, and phrases in a new language.
Every step of the way, Harper will provide help with pronunciation and answers for the games and puzzles.
Included with the Baker’s Passport Activity Kit is a customizable passport and a stamp so your child can keep track of the adventures they have completed!
Our Baking Passports are targeted for children ages 5-12, but we have had some younger children use the product successfully with adult supervision and the have had a great time!
This first round of production will include Spanish, French, and Japanese Little Bite Baking Passports Activity Kits - each available in the following recipes: chocolate oat cookies, sugar cookies and butterscotch brownies.
Included in our Baking Passport Activity Kit is a baker’s hat with adjustable Velcro to fit any head size! [Certain reward levels will be able to get these hats personalized with your child's name]
Also included is an apron to wear during their kitchen adventure! The apron will come with the Baker's Passport logo screen printed on the front.
To help with all of the stirring, the kit includes a kid-sized spoon guaranteed to make your child smile!
Don't forget the kid-sized eco-friendly grocery bag – perfect for picking up ingredients from the store and for keeping your Baking Passport and kitchen gear organized! The bag will come with the Baker's Passport logo screen printed on the front.
In the few short months from our launch, a lot of kids & parents have had the opportunity to try our Spanish, Japanese, and French Passports. Here is what they had to say:
Heather at Real the Kitchen and Beyond - “Math, language, and handwriting all in one fun activity. Oh yeah!”
Stephanie at Mamma Bear’s World – “The boys have had a few Spanish and Sign Language classes at preschool, but nothing as organized and integrated as Baker’s Passports.”
Heather at Local Fun For Kids - “It was the perfect indoor activity combining three of my favorite things: spending quality time with my son, cooking, and learning something new!”
Kelly at Delco Deal Diva – “Perfect for rainy, hot or snowy days inside, homeschool families, or families just looking for some family fun.”
Linda at Giggles Gobbles and Gulps - “Not only did the boys absolutely love the Baker’s Passport and learning a new language, they also enjoyed doing something together while spending quality time in the kitchen with mom.”
Georgina at Craftulate - “I was really impressed that the girls were happy to engage in the educational part of this activity, rather than just rush through to the cookie-eating part!”
Megan at Coffee Cups and Crayons - “I can’t wait to host another baking play date!”
Krissy at B-Inspired Mama - “The recipe was very easy to follow, with instructions that would be as easy for a young child to follow as an adult.”
Carrie at Crafty Moms Share – “We had so much fun.”
Jill at Enchanted Homeschooling Mom - “I was instantly a fan.”
Jennifer at Philly Fun 4 Kids - “What I really loved about the recipe included in this was that it didn't require a hand beater at all and instructions just included mix by hand 15 times or mix my hand 20 times. Kids of course love this and really got into the mixing part too.”
Victoria at ABC Creative Learning - "you don’t need to know Spanish to teach because everything is given to you"
Nicole at Journey to Excellence - "The Spanish lessons were informative and educational, the recipes was easy and fun to make, and the brownies were divine!"
Emilee at Pea of Sweetness - "Stirring was actually a great Math lesson because the recipe was very specific how many stirs we needed to do."
Beth at 123 Homeschool 4 Me - "If you are looking for a fun, gently way to introduce you kids to a new language you are going to love Baker’s Passport!
Philly Mag - "Helping kids gain confidence through baking will translate (no pun intended!) to a more sure-footed approach to other lofty goals, like learning a new tongue."
Check out the rewards that you can get by backing this project:
I see a lot of potential growth in Baker's Passport beyond our Little Bite Passports. After successfully launching the Little Bite Activity Kits (with your help) I would like to create Big Bite Activity Kits, which would include new more complex recipes and more advanced language lessons. I would also like to offer Baker's Passport Activity Kits in a wider variety of languages.
I would love to hear from you, so please feel free to let me know what languages you would like to see next. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please message me through kickstarter or at email@example.com.
Baker’s Passport was created by me - Meg, with support from my husband and sweet baby girl. The idea for Baker’s Passport was born out of my love for baking - for the past 20+ years, I have loved getting my hands (and clothes...and the floor) covered in flour, sugar, and chocolate (my favorite) and getting lost in the world of baking.
It always surprises me how many people I encounter that do not feel comfortable in the kitchen and that doubt their ability to create and make something that tastes as good (if not better than) the local bakery down the street.
I want to help kids get off the couch and into the kitchen to start baking, where they can feel a sense of accomplishment. The goal is to build self-confidence while having FUN!
Baker’s Passport not only guides kids through a mouth-watering activity in the kitchen – it also layers in language exploration along the way. As a parent, I feel that it is important to expose children to unique experiences and cultures that may be different from their own. Learning a new language at a young age is a perfect way to create a spark of interest in other cultures that your kids can then explore on their own to whatever depth they desire.
There is really no specific reason why most everything about Baker's Passport incorporates the color orange. When I was developing Baker's Passport, it sort of came naturally. My best guess is that the color orange is ingrained in me...you see I am a Hokie so to me the color orange always brings a sense of pride and happiness. Hopefully it has the same effect on you:) Not quite sure what a hokie is?

Risks and challenges
The design and content for the Spanish, Japanese, and French Baking Passports are complete. I have lined up manufactures/printers for the components of the Kits. Based on the time estimated from those resources, the estimated fulfillment date should be met. To stay within cost constraints, I need to be able to meet minimum order quantities.
I will be 100% transparent about any unforeseen delays that may come up and am committed to getting rewards in the hands of my backers on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
