Changes in Developer Edition Devices

Hello, community! We apologise for a bit of silence around our radical cloud computer, but rest assured work continues. The reason for the quiet period is that we have been busying ourselves with technology related to the bleeding edge USB-C port. Despite some flexibility in our original timetable, that is now causing delays. Due to the relative immaturity of the technology we have decided to switch back to having mini-HDMI and Micro-USB connectors. These are the same connectors that many have seen from our launch prototype. These changes are causing delays in our design and manufacturing. The good news, however, is that mini-HDMI cables are ubiquitous and it means a Solu can be connected to any normal display without adapters.

These Developer Edition devices will still be clearly the first ones to be delivered, with an early first-in-the-world build of the OS, and are on track for Q1, despite changes. The OS is becoming more magnificent by the day, and we want nothing more than for us to get it into your hands, as soon as possible.

Main Devices

This change will also affect the later Kickstarter and Indiegogo batch devices, with a similar delay for them as well, but with the benefit of getting common connectors and easier connections to existing displays. The schedule for those is to have things ready by summer.

We do apologise for this delay. Upon launch we had set our operations up so as to be able to avoid such delays, and we are not at all happy about this change. What drives us forwards, however, is to see Solu improving every single day, and to see the excitement from people who get to see a Solu working. It will be worth the wait.

Meanwhile, you can check the photo below of the latest two revisions of Solu prototypes, and look at this video we created of how Solu can be used in daily life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fE-kw9tTBkE
