Working on Parcels, and Some Tangential Good News
Well, that hasn't gone quite the way I expected.
Two weeks ago, I was certain I'd be able to get all the physical copies of The Imlen Brat into the mail before the World Fantasy Convention, even if some of the other items weren't yet ready to ship. Two weeks ago, my tech service guy (to whom I've been married for 23 years) was sure he'd have the website set up for passwords and downloads. We were determined to get the book out to you guys first, before Ingram's system started releasing the book on the 30th.
Then our kids took turns getting sick. Really, really sick. We got pretty sick, too. I nuked the germs with zinc lozenges and elderflower tea and ginseng, possibly to excess, and got myself well enough to travel. Then, when it was time to go to the World Fantasy Convention, I left my sick kids with my sick husband.
Now I'm back home, and they're all still sick. I want to say I'll get everything delivered to you guys this week. That might happen. I have high hopes. But my kids are spiking fevers and generally manifesting symptoms, and it's not clear when that will stop.
I'm so sorry this process is taking so long. My commitments to you are important. They are not forgotten.
The tangential good news is that C.S.E. Cooney, our audiobook narrator, just received a World Fantasy Award for Best Collection for her lovely book, Bone Swans. John O'Neill also won a World Fantasy Award for Black Gate, the online magazine whose previous incarnation as a print publication was almost the first home of The Imlen Brat. That little blurb quote in white letters at the bottom of the front cover is from John. His name is the first one mentioned in the book's acknowledgments. It was such a joy this afternoon to see John and Claire recognized for their work. If you'd like something wonderful to tide you over until The Imlen Brat can reach you, you can find Bone Swans here, and Black Gate here.
