About
In The Beginning
In the beginning there was a true love. An unconditional harmony and respect between two… beer and food. The earliest known chemical evidence of beer dates to circa 3500 – 3100 B.C. from the archeological site of Godin Tepe in the Mesopotamia region. Other beer findings in and around Egypt date back past 2000 B.C.. Some form of beer has been brewed in nearly every culture throughout the world since the earliest civilizations.
Do you ever feel like YOU got left out of the Creation Story? Always wishing you could have helped out, maybe given some inspiration to the beginning of mankind? Perhaps now is your chance. ManKind Brewing Company is a “green”, progressive and community oriented brewpub to be opened in the summer of 2013 in the Crossroads Arts District of Kansas City, designed to celebrate mankind’s many diverse cultures and achievements, thru a variety of exquisite beer styles and exotic cuisines.
ManKind Brewing Company is the brain, love and soul child of me, local area brewmaster, Micah Weichert, I have been brewing award winning beers in the United States for over 13 years. From Waimea Brewing Company in Hawaii to Brugge Brasserie in Indiana, I have traveled wide in my journey as a brewer. Originally a Kansas boy, I got my start with the Pony Express Brewery, I’ve now returned to Kansas City to bring forth a new era of the brewpub and a new social consciousness, awareness, and sustainability to the Midwest and to the Kansas City craft beer scene.
"Be not a product of your environment but let your environment be a product of you."
Evolution of the BrewPub
MKB will strive to change the brewpub concept and standard to one of sustainablity, local quality, and a minimized carbon footprint. Our entire business will encompass this from the ground up. We will source our ingredients from local, regional, organic, and sustainable farms and companies. The brewery itself will be built with sustainable, recycled and reclaimed materials.
The three "worst enemies" of beer are oxygen, temperature, and sunlight. However, at ManKind Brewing Company sunlight will help make OUR beer BETTER. The contributions raised on Kickstarter will go toward the purchasing of solar panels to power our brewery. The first phase in our solar power mission is to install panels over the windows and doors as awnings. Phases two and three will see our amount of solar panels nearly triple.
Contributing and Rewards
To achieve our mission of bringing the finest locally crafted ales, lagers and food to the people of Kansas City and beyond, it will take much more than the goal we have set to achieve on Kickstarter. Our intention here is to kick start the enthusiasm and momentum while raising crucial funds to reinvent the brewpub. Times are tough these days and if you cannot contribute funds we totally understand, but please help by passing on this mission to family, friends, associates and enthusiasts. On Kickstarter, if you do not reach your contribution goal then you receive $0 of your supporters' funding and supporters will not be charged. With this in mind it is crucial we spread the word like wild fire to reach our goal within 45 days of launching.
It's easy to contribute. Just click on the "back this project" button in the upper right hand corner and choose your contribution level. You will be prompted to register with Amazon Payments unless you already are, in which case you will simply log in to Amazon to process your payment. You will not be charged until our goal is met and time expired.
All contributors will receive a certificate by mail with a thank you and a summary of your rewards. Our rewards make great gift ideas for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations or just random acts of mankindness. We prefer that you will come see us at the brewpub once we are open to redeem your reward certificate. If you need your reward(s) shipped to you please expect to add $5 for U.S. Shipping and $10.00 for International Shipping.
Risks and challenges
Perhaps the most important aspect of survival in the craft industry is to brew the ales and lagers that the people, that your craft community wants. This "social" palate is ever changing and it is of the utmost importance to change with that palate in order to be successful.
The Craft Beer industry is one that exists on many levels. Our greatest risks and challenges will be overcome or avoided altogether by a depth of knowledge and experience. Nearly a decade and a half of successful craft-brewery operations has granted me the tools, skills and network required to create a successful and profitable craft brand.
Location is always a significant factor with a retail business and breweries and brewpubs are no exception. ManKind Brewing Company will be built in the Crossroads Arts District just south of downtown Kansas City. This area is walking distance from the Kauffmann Performing Arts Center, The Kansas City Convention Center, The Crossroad's Music venue, The Sprint Center, and the Arts District in general whose First Fridays events bring tens of thousands of visitors annually, and has brought national recognition to the district.
The proximity to major interstates and highways will make MKB more accessible to outer lying areas of Kansas City as well as the international tourism of craft beer enthusiasts.
