Support the world premiere of That Poor Dream, a new play about class in America by The Assembly, creators of HOME/SICK (NYTimes Critics' Pick)

After years of development, we are proud to announce the world premiere of our newest play, That Poor Dream. A moving mosaic of what it means to be endowed with "Great Expectations," That Poor Dream is set on a train traveling from New York City to Fairfield, CT, uniting worlds divided by geography, privilege, and time. Inspired by Charles Dickens' classic novel about coming of age in a profoundly class-conscious society, the work draws on the company's own complex relationship to class identity and economic disparity in American society. The Assembly's newest creation explores how class defines and divides us, and how our shared humanity might bring us closer together. In order to make That Poor Dream a reality, we are going to need your help! Every dollar counts, especially since every donation made during this campaign will be matched by our incredibly generous Producer’s Circle!

THAT POOR DREAM BUDGET:

Press Representative: $2,000

We believe in total fiscal transparency, so you know where your money is going. We hope that asking for $4,000 is a relatively modest amount given these costs, but every dollar helps us! If you can't afford to donate, please share this link and spread the word about the play. Thank you.

Risks and challenges

The Assembly has been lucky to sell out every run of our plays in NYC, since we first came here in 2007. Given the length of this run, we feel confident that our ticket sales can help us meet all our costs, even if it means loaning the company money until the ticket sales come through. If we have a surplus, it will go directly back towards supporting future productions by the company. We are committed to producing groundbreaking and relevant theater in NYC. It is always a challenge, but it is always worth it to us.
