For those enchanting moments before going to bed: DreamMe Kids turns any mobile phone into an animated magical bedtime story projector.
What is DreamMe Kids?
DreamMe Kids turns mobile phone into an animated magical story projector - for those enchanting moments before going to bed.
Introducing: DreamMe Kids
My name is Yvonne, I live in Germany, and I am a passionate godmother. My 6-year-old niece Sophia, my 3-year-old nephew Benjamin and 7-year-old Emma, my friend Anisa’s (team member) daughter, are proven experts in „bedtime stories”, my hardest critics, and the sweetest test laboratory in the world. We have tested and developed many great bedtime stories in the last few evenings. I developed the idea for DreamMe Kids already three years ago and finished it now together with my team.
I often think about my childhood; when my grandma told me a good night story before going to bed. She later said that it was the greatest pleasure for her to see my eyes shine. In today’s world, it has become immensely important to let the one moment become the most beautiful and intimate time with your children – telling and experiencing a bedtime story.
DreamMe Kids: Features
With DreamMe Kids, the children’s imagination is stimulated and, depending on the fairy tale, the adventures, new characters, or relaxing good night stories can be experienced in a new way. Animations are projected onto walls or ceilings, with plenty of room to customize the stories with music and sounds. This turns the mobile phone into a visual audiobook. Start the kid’s app, choose a story, attach the DreamMe Kid to your mobile phone, read or let read, spend unforgettable moments together. The DreamMe Kids hardware does not require batteries and doesn’t need to be connected to the smartphone because the information is projected with special optics.
Read, or let read.
Reading Mode: The story can be read to you in the Reading Mode. The DreamMe Kids app displays the text on the lower half of the screen while the upper half is used for animated projection. You can also select different suitable sounds for each text passage and animation by pressing a key so that the story matches with the animations and sounds.
Read-Out Mode: The DreamMe Kids app can also read the individual text passages to you in the Read-Out Mode. The individual texts have been read in advance by professional speakers. This turns DreamMe Kids into a visual audiobook with enough space for your own fantasies.
It was a challenge to push the operation and features of the app into the background. After all, the smartphone is supposed to help parents spend beautiful moments with their children, not replace them. That’s why we have put all our attention on a simple one-handed operation. The use of the app is self-explanatory, versatile, and reduced to the essentials. Great moments are experienced together with DreamMe Kids. Eye contact is essential to share the collective experience emotionally and mimically. Regardless of the selected reading mode, you can determine the speed of the narrated story.
However, the result is always the same - Quality time with the kids.
DreamMe Kids: Stories and Fairy Tales
The stories are the central element of DreamMe Kids. All backers receive up to ten different stories ( English & German ) depending on the perk. Here is a preview of the stories:
1. The story of Flynn: That’s me
A story for girls and boys from 3 years
Crawlers, winged creatures, pupas, and caterpillars – the world of insects is exciting. Insects have been living on earth for more than 400 million years and are the species-richest animal class on our planet – and the millions of undiscovered species that are suspected in the tropical rainforests aren’t even included! You can discover an exciting universe on the grass right in front of our door.
Our first story opens our eyes to this world. It takes the children and parents into this universe in a playful, colorful, and cheerful way. Our protagonists are insects that children already know from their everyday life: a fly, honeybee, or bumblebee. Anyone who encounters them with open eyes can enter this fascinating world. A highly anticipated side-effect: insects have a meaning in our ecosystem, and anyone who understands this will protect them.

2. The adventures of a little cat named Blue
Sunbeams slipped quietly into the room. They felt their way along the floor as if they were searching for something. They came closer and closer to the pillow on which the little cat named Blue was laying. One of the rays came up to the cat’s whiskers and dared to dance on them. Back and forth, and up and down, and around in circles.
One of Blue’s ears twitched, and he pricked it up. The ray of sunlight stood still as if it was holding its breath. Blue pricked up his other ear, and his tail quivered for a second. The cat’s eyes opened and looked around the room.
Blue saw the sunbeam flutter on the floor from the corner of his eyes and jumped. His front paws landed where the sun had just painted a dot on the wood. The light was faster than Blue. He looked out of the window. The sun was playing in the leaves of a tree, and now and then one of the rays flashed down to the floor of the room.
Blue no longer cared about it. The stupid Sun can dance where it wants to; it couldn’t follow him into the hallway.
3. Pirate friends forever!
Six round bellies were flying over the waves. The sails of the Santa Clara were swelling in the wind so that they looked as if six chubby sailors were tied to their masts, floating over the sea. Pirate Pitty was steering the wheel. He was laughing. The weather suited his taste – rough and wild. His men have tied themselves to the railing in order not to be thrown overboard. But not Pitty, he was standing firmly on the planks of the bridge with both feet and looked at the horizon. Ferasa, a Yucatan parrot, was clinging to his vest on his left shoulder. She rubbed her round peak on Pitty’s cheek, and her feathers fluttered in the wind.
4. Rosalie, the rocket princess
Rosalie is well versed. She knows all about space. No wonder, she has traversed it a hundred times and visited all the planets. Well, almost all of them, she hasn’t been past the white spiral nebula. It was too dangerous for her. Her grandmother, who was a famous space pioneer, had warned her: her friend had disappeared in the nebula with her rocket and never returned. Rosalie’s new mission is to solve the mystery of the spiral nebula; the countdown is running!
5. The Fabulous Three
A brush was standing in its glass – day in, day out. Nothing ever happened. Until he was pushed near a paint box and a pencil fell into his home as if by magic. This is the beginning of a great adventure. Together, the three want to show what they can do. A raging fire red and powerful yellow turn into a bright orange that gently pours itself over a paper, and a cold blue and bright yellow combine to a frog green – which jumps away with a squawk. With these three friends at your side, you can change the world!
Why are we telling these stories, and why do we tell them this way?
Kids love stories. They love to hear them and also invent their own stories. That’s their way of understanding the world. Fantasy, language and the joy of creating something are their most essential tools. Our stories give them all that. They bring imagination and the joy of discovery into play. They explain contexts without a pedagogical pointing finger. They invite us to look closely and embrace the world. Strong, trustworthy characters offer themselves for identification and represent essential values: friendship, creativity, solidarity, and an inquiring mind. Reading and experiencing the stories together promotes the bond between parents and children. The exchange of ideas on this subject supports language, thinking, and imagination. The competencies we need in our everyday lives grows.
DreamMe Kids: Technical Specification
DreamMe Kids is a purely passive system, which means that the display is optically enlarged and focused without technical support. DreamMe Kids is designed for the bedroom and is intended for use in rooms with low light levels. The focusing can be adjusted to different ceiling heights or wall distances by merely rotating the upper part of the housing. Do not expect a highresolution projector, as we use the display backlight to project the animation, but the light intensity is sufficient for dark rooms.
DreamMe Kids doesn't require batteries and does not have to be connected to the smartphone - the information is projected directly onto the ceiling with the special optics. The core element of DreamMe is a high-quality aspherical light lens.
DreamMe Kids: App
Apple iOS and Google Android version will be free for all backers. There are up to ten stories included, depending on the selected perk.
The design of the DreamMe Kids App is self-explanatory and reduced to the essentials. User-friendliness is in the foreground because the app is also designed for children's use as well.
Selection page: The different fairy tales and storys can be selected on the selection page. For orientation, there is a small summary of the available story and fairy tales. These can be viewed and selected by swiping. (Similar to an app store, more stories and fairy tales will become available here.)
Start page: If the story is selected, you will get to the start page. The DreamMe hardware is now attached to the mobile phone.
Settings: In the settings, you can determine if the fairy tale is read by yourself or if the app reads the fairy tale. You can also adjust brightness and volume here.
Play: Depending on the settings, the app will start the text and the fairy tale animation.
